    • 1292499 Adhesive coatings BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 5 March 1970 [6 March 1969] 10572/70 Heading B2E Pressure-sensitive adhesive coated articles have at least one adhesive coating containing a copolymer of (a) from 50 to 90% by weight of acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of primary and/or secondary alkanols of 4 to 12 carbon atoms, of which at least 25% are derived from alkanols having 6 to 12 carbon atoms, (b) from 10 to 40% by weight of acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of tertiary alcohols of 4 to 12 carbon' atoms and (c) from 3 to 12% by weight of polymerizable heterocyclic N-vinyl compounds and/or other olefin comonomers containing reactive groups. Suitable primary and secondary alkanols for the esters are nbutanol, s-butanol, n-hexanol, n-octanol, 2- ethylhexanol-1 alcohol, n-decanol and n-dodecanol. Suitable tertiary alkanols are t-butanol, 2-ethylhexanol-2 or 2-ethyl decyl alcohol. Suitable N-vinyl compounds are N-vinyl caprolactam, N-vinyl imidazole and N-vinyl 1 pyrrolidone. Other suitable comonomers are acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylomide, methacrylomide, N - methylacrylomide, N - methylol acrylomide, N - methalol methacrylomide, N - methoxy methacrylomide, N - n - butoxy methacrylomide, maleic acid, itaconic acid and fumaric acid and their amides, and crotonic acid and its amide. Other suitable monomers, containing hydroxyl groups are specified. The substrate may be sodium paper, metal foils, such as of aluminium, films of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and polyethylene terephthalate, foamed materials such as of rubber, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyurethane and polyether and woven and non-woven webs of fibrous material such as woven textile fabrics and non-woven fabrics of natural and/or synthetic fibres.

    • 1287714 Moulding powder FORD MOTOR CO 17 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 15225/71 Headings C3B and C3P A thermosetting moulding powder comprises: (A) a copolymer of (I) glycidyl methacrylate, (II) methyl methacrylate and (III) acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile, and (B) as curing agent an aromatic amine which contains at least one primary amino group. (A) may contain 15-35% by wt. of I, 10-30% by wt. of III and 35-75% by wt. of II. A minor proportion of II may be replaced by another ethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. styrene, vinyl acetate or an ester of (meth)acrylic acid with a C 2 -C 4 alkanol. (A) may have a M.W. of 1500- 16000, a softening point of 50-130‹ C. and may be prepared by solution or suspension polymerization. (B) may be 4,4 1 -methylenedianiline and may be present so as to provide 0À75-1À5 active hydrogen atoms for every epoxy group in (A). A cross-linking catalyst, e.g. urea, methyl urea, an imidazole or a BF 3 complex, may also be present. A reactive diluent, e.g. a liquid diepoxide may also be employed in the composition.

    • Golf balls comprise a core and a cover for said core formed from a composition comprising a copolymer of at least one mono-olefin and at least one unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid. The copolymers may be derived from ethylene and acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic, crotonic or sorbic acid. The copolymers may also comprise units of metal salts of such acids, e.g. sodium or zinc salts, to provide thermolabile cross-linkages; and units of other monomers such as vinyl alkanoates, alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates. The copolymer may be a random copolymer, or a radiation induced graft polymer of the acid on a polyolefin base. Instead of using an acid salt monomer a cross-linking agent which supplies metal ions, e.g. a metal acetate, oxide, carbonate or hydroxide, may be incorporated. Fillers, e.g. metal oxides, may also be present. In examples golf ball covers are prepared from compositions comprising (I) ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers and titanium dioxide, with and without zinc oxide; (II) ethylene/acrylic acid/sodium acrylate copolymers and titanium dioxide, with and without zinc oxide; (III) a polyethylene/acrylic acid graft copolymer, with and without zinc oxide; and (IV) an ethylene/methacrylic acid/sodium methacrylate copolymer, or ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers reacted with sodium acetate, and titanium dioxide.ALSO:Golf balls comprise a core and a cover for said core formed from a composition comprising a copolymer of at least one mono olefin and at least one unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid. The copolymers may be derived from ethylene and acrylic, methacrylic, itaconic, crotonic or sorbic acid. Instead of using an acid salt monomer a cross-linking agent which supplies metal ions, e.g. a metal acetate, oxide, carbonate or hydroxide, may be incorporated in the copolymer. Fillers, e.g. metal oxides, may also be present. The balls may be manufactured by moulding the compositions of the invention to form half shells, placing two half shells round a core comprising a core-centre which is solid or a liquid or paste filled spherical sac wound with rubber tape or thread, heating the assembly in a mould to fuse the two half shells on the core and impart the desired surface pattern thereto. In examples golf balls are prepared from thread-wound cores and cover compositions comprising (I) ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers and titanium dioxide with and without zinc oxide; (II) ethylene/acrylic acid/sodium acrylate copolymers and titanium dioxide with and without zinc oxide; (III) a polyethylene/acrylic acid graft copolymer with and without zinc oxide; and (IV) an ethylene/methacrylic acid/sodium methacrylate copolymer, or ethylene/acrylic acid copolymers reacted with sodium acetate, and titanium dioxide.
