    • The invention relates to a process for automating the positioning and fastening of a clip to a pouch. The system describes automated assembly of a first clip member 14 having a clamping surface 16 disposed between a latching component 18 and a hinge component 20 is loaded into a first feed mechanism 22. Similarly a second clip member 24 having a clamping surface 26 disposed between a latching component 28 and a hinge component 30 is loaded into a scond feed mechanism 32. Each of the clip members 14 and 24 are mechanically manipulated into a desired orientation. Manipulation of the clip members may be accomplished by any suitable manner well known in the art, including the use of vibration, centrifugal force, gravity, etc. As an alternati ve, the clip members 14 and 24 may be preoriented at the time they areloaded int o their respective feeding mechanisms.

    • A model clip (10) for closing bags and the like includes a pair of claws (20,22) with a latch (42) and a hinge (40) at opposed ends. The hinge extends rearwardly from the jaws and includes a hinge bearing (44) with a rearwardly facing opening (60) of restricted diameter thereto. The other jaw includes a fixed hinge pin (46) which may be snap engaged into the bearing by resilient passage through the opening. Where the jaws are relatively large, they may be provided with cooperating shoulders (26) that restrict axial movement of the jaws under reactively generated forces. In accordance with one embodiment, one of the jaws is double sided, and the clip may be assembled with either of these sides confronting the other jaw to provide different clip functions.
