SOLUTION: This wheel cover 70 for decoration is integrally held on a lug nut of a vehicle wheel and is securely positioned on the lug nut. The cover 70 is provided with a plurality of elongated tubular protruding parts protruding in the axial direction. A slot is partially formed in each tubular protruding part to form a plurality of cantilever fingers. Each finger has an undercut channel for positioning the cover for the lug nut of the wheel. When the cover is attached to the wheel, the elongated tubular protruding part is aligned with the lug nut. The cantilever fingers are slightly separated when they pass a flange of the lug nut by moving the cover onto an inner side in the axial direction of the wheel. Furthermore, the wheel cover includes a wire band holding device performing continuous engagement with the lug nut even at a temperature making the cantilever finger eccentric most to an inner side and causing the distortion of plastic due to thermal deformation.

The cover body 22 is molded by inserting the wire ring 23 so as to eliminate the necessity of separately attaching the wire ring 23 to the cover body 22. The wire ring 23 can enhance the rigidity of the cover body 22 so as to shorten the molding cycle time and thin the cover body 22.

摘要： A wheel cover mounting for plastic wheel covers (10) comprising a mounting portion (14) positioned in axial alignment with and spaced radially inward from a facing surface portion (16) of a vehicle wheel (18). A spring wire retainer ring (32) including radially outwardly extending projections (34) spaced circumferentially around the ring (32) in a substantially flat plane are received through circumferentially spaced openings (73, 77) in the mounting portion (14) of the wheel cover (10). At least one, and preferably most if not all, of the openings (73, 77) are defined by guide walls (72, 74, 76, 78) circumferentially spaced apart a distance greater than the circumferential width of the projections (34) in order to reduce frictional forces between the projections (34) and the lugs (20-30) and maximize the forces retaining the wheel cover (10) on the wheel (18) and in a fixed position with the wheel (18). The forces maintaining fixed positioning can be further increased by anti-rotational means (38) interposed between the wheel cover (10) and a surface (16) fixed for rotation with the wheel to resist relative rotational displacement of the wheel cover (10) with respect to the wheel (18). Preferably, two spring clips (38) including a resilient tang (58) are disposed at diametrically opposed positions of the wheel cover (10) with their tangs (58) radially inclined in opposite rotational directions. The openings (73) in the mounting portion near the spring clips are defined by guide walls (72, 74) spaced apart from each other a distance greater than the width of the projection (34) extending through the opening so that the loading force of the spring clip (38) does not affect the retaining force applied by the spring wire retainer (32).
