    • A buckle assembly includes a handhold or attachment type of strap system for horse reins, backpack straps, belts, climbing rope, and the like. The female portion of the mating assembly that forms the buckle permits a strap to pass through such that the latchable engagement of the male member of the buckle, upon insertion into the female portion, fixes the position of the buckle by frictionally engaging the strap. At least one or both of the male and female members may also include a loop type-connecting strap that provides a handholding attachment to the buckle assembly. Thus, the placement of the handhold attachment may be varied by the disengaging the male and female members, and sliding the female member along the strap before their re-insertion of the male member.

    • A strap lifter for use with a harness is shown and described. The harness may have two shoulder straps that support a central, front buckle for use at about the lower, central belly of a user. A generally horizontal buckle strap has a fixed, rigid lower loop beneath a movable, flexible upper loop secured to the front of the buckle strap. The lower and upper loops are generally parallel, and close, to each other. Typically, the distance between the two loops is slightly more than the thickness of a lifter strap which is threaded between the two loops. Preferably, a set of two harnesses is used by two persons standing face-to-face with a single lifter strap between them threaded through both of the buckles.

    • Described herein is a secure adjustable orthotic device having multiple brace portions and one or more locking mechanisms, One locking mechanism is a level moving buckle comprising a top member (3), a locking member (12) and a base member (2). The locking member is adapted to engage and disengage an inserted strap (31) in response to the longitudinal movement of the top member relative to the base member. The level moving buckle inhibits accidental longitudinal movement of the inserted strap when the top member is in a locked position. The possibility of accidental adjustments of one brace portion of the secure adjustable orthotic device relative to another brace portion is reduced because the bracket portion that slidably interconnects the first and second brace portions is held in place by two independent locking members. The presence of two independent locking members necessitates the use of an adjusting tool before one can adjust the orientation of one brace portion relative to atiother brace portion of the secure adjustable orthotic device.
