    • A hand-held instrument has a business end and a handle attached to the business end. The handle has a gripping portion and a longitudinal axis. A knob is provided on the gripping portion of the handle to facilitate the wielding of the hand-held instrument. The knob is disposed such that it projects away from the handle in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the handle. In a preferred, but not required embodiment, the knob is removably attached to the handle by a quick release attachment device. In a typical, but not required, such embodiment, the quick release attachment device includes a male connection pin disposed within the knob and a female receptor disposed within the hand tool.

    • An operating structure for a vertical blind, including an operative pulley seat, a guide cord, a shaft wheel, a pressing wheel, a hollow pull rod, a stepped fixing block, a stopper block, a rotary bar and a distance-adjusting strip. A pair of shaft wheel holes and a pair of pressing wheel holes are respectively disposed on two sides of the operative pulley seat. Two corner holes are formed on two corners contained by front side and bottom side of the operative pulley seat. The shaft wheel is formed with spaced axial frictional ribs on its surface and a central rotary bar hole. The rotary bar has a shape corresponding to that of the rotary shaft hole and is passed therethrough. The pressing wheel has a large diameter middle section and two small diameter end sections. The pull rod is a hollow cylindrical column with a certain length. The stepped fixing block has a small diameter upper section and a large diameter lower section. Two through holes extend from top face of the upper section to bottom face of the lower section. The stopper block is a hollow trapezoidal block having a close top end formed with a cord hole and an open bottom end. The slats of the blind can be easily collected without being damaged even in the case that the slats are not face-to-face positioned. In addition, the angle of the slats can be easily adjusted to open or close the blind.

    • A method and apparatus for securing a lanyard to a handle of the type used with inflators. The lanyard is captured in sandwiched relation between the opposite halves of the handle at the time the handle is molded. A pair of confronting lanyard-receiving members are positioned along the longitudinal axis of symmetry of the handle, and the lanyard is placed between them. Plugs that force the lanyard to follow a serpentine path of travel are positioned along the length of each lanyard-receiving member when the molding process begins and the plugs are removed when the handle is completed.

    • A side-mounted pull-rope recoil starter for low horsepower, vertical crankshaft internal combustion engines in which a starter gear moves vertically in a pair of journalled slots in the starter mounting bracket into engagement with a ring gear carried by the engine flywheel. The starter includes a starter brake spring which is released when the starter gear engages the flywheel, an operator handle which is specifically contoured to be comfortably held by the operator during pulling of the starter rope and a mechanical interlock between the engine and a drive transmission to prevent engagement of the starter mechanism when the transmission is in other than the neutral position. A safety lock mechanism which is operable by means of a removable key and which prevents unauthorized activation of the starter mechanism is also disclosed. A top-mounted pull-rope recoil starter is disclosed which incorporates many features of the basic side-mounted starter embodiment.
