    • Methods, devices, and instructions stored in non-transitory computer-readable medium are provided for adaptively adjusting when a mobile device requests fast dormancy (FD) by determining when applications executing on the mobile device stop using a connection to a cellular telecommunications network. An adaptive fast dormancy controller function executing on a processor of the mobile device monitors network traffic activity by the applications. The adaptive fast dormancy controller function may determine that an open network connection should be released using a device traffic inactivity timer that times durations of network inactivity by applications. The duration of the device traffic inactivity timer may be adjusted based upon observed application and/or network conditions. Multiple device traffic inactivity timers may be used to enable timing traffic inactivity of each application or groups of applications executing on the mobile device.

    • According to one embodiment, a communication device is described comprising a first determiner configured to determine a signal transmission time between the communication device and another communication device, wherein the communication device and the other communication device have a communication session with each other and communication resources are allocated for exchanging data in course of the communication session; a second determiner configured to determine a waiting period based on the determined signal transmission time; a transmitter configured to transmit a message indicating that the communication session is to be ended; and a controller configured to control the communication device to release the communication resources when the waiting period has elapsed since the transmitting of the message by the transmitter.

    • State machine diagram (300) illustrates inactive connection (303) management wherein all bindings are deregistered, but active sessions remain. The mobile station may, re-register the connection (309), to stop the Linger Timer (305) and return the connection to the active state (303) before timeout, or otherwise before the inactive connection is terminated. Otherwise, the Linger Timer may be stopped when the last active session is moved to a different connection, or released (311). If the Linger Timer times out (315), any active sessions will be released without the explicit action of the mobile station. In the active state (303), if all bindings are deregistered and no active sessions are present, the connection may be terminated immediately as in (313), without invoking the Linger Timer. Thus, the mobile station has an opportunity to take action regarding remaining sessions, such as releasing or refreshing on a different but active connection.

    • The proposed technology relates to the issue of supporting release of common radio resources in a radio communication network. A radio network controller (200) sends an indication of a value of a timer for implicit release of common radio resources to a base station (100). The base station (100) receives the indication of a value of a timer for implicit release of common radio resources and determines whether to release common radio resources based on the indication of a value of the timer for implicit release of common radio resources. In this way, by using the indication of a value of the timer for implicit release the base station (100) will be able to correctly determine whether to release the common resources upon reception of a report of empty buffer status from a UE. This will eliminate misinterpretations of the empty buffer status report, and avoid unnecessary radio link failures.
