    • A service indication mechanism is described for use by IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, codes (201, 204) of an IMS network (106) in routing a terminating call in a network comprising a circuit switched, CS, network (107) and an IMS network (105, 106). On receipt of a Service Initiation Protocol, SIP, message from a second IMS node (202), the SIP message including a called user number associated with the call (A1), a SIP Uniform Resource Identifier, URI, and the call services for the called user from a user profile database is retrieved (A2). A second SIP URI is generated by including a service indicator of the called user in the received SIP URI, the service indicator representing the call services of the called user (A3), the SIP message is transmitted with the second SIP-URI to a third IMS node (204). On receiving the transmitted SIP message, the third IMS node (204) detects whether the service indicator is included in the SIP URI, and applies the service indicator to a plurality of policy rules for indicating whether the terminating call should be routed to the CS network (107) and whether to suppress insertion of a prefix to a CS routing number of the called user. The third IMS node (204) transmits to a CS node (206) a SIP message including the CS routing number without the prefix when a routing policy rule associated with the service indicator indicates suppression of the prefix (B5).

    • Disclosed is a method that includes receiving, when in a radio resource control (RRC) Connected state, a RRC connection release message from a network access node; setting a wait timer in accordance with a wait timer indication that comprises part of the RRC connection release message; and upon an expiration of the wait timer, enabling the initiating of sending an RRC connection request message to the network access node. Also disclosed is a method that includes operating a network access node with mobile node and sending a RRC connection release message to the mobile node. The RRC connection release message comprises a wait timer indication for specifying an amount of time that the mobile node should wait before initiating the sending of a RRC connection request message. Various apparatus and computer programs stored on non-transitory computer-readable medium are disclosed that are configured to execute the methods.

    • In a multi-point mobile radio broadcast network, the multiple mobile radios can have personality information reprogrammed via a broadcast method, rather than on a one-to-one basis. A communications manager, which controls the communications between the various mobile radios can change the personality information contained in each radio by broadcasting that information to the radios as a group. After receiving the new personality information, a processor within the mobile radios can remove the unique identification codes associated with that particular radio from the old personality information, imported into the new personality information communicated to it by the communication manager, and store the new personality information with the newly incorporated unique identification codes into a local memory. The protocol for broadcasting the personality information to the mobile radios is important to ensure that the mobile radios receive the new personality information. It is also important that the communication manager have assurances that the mobile radios properly receive the new personality information, without requiring the mobile radios to communicate multiple acknowledgments one-by-one to the communication manager. Accordingly, broadcast sessions are initiated by a repetitious broadcast control signal, then group data is broadcast without acknowledgments to the mobile radios. On the last data broadcast, the communication manager requests an acknowledgment, which is returned one-by-one from each mobile radio. Finally, a disconnect broadcast session control signal is then repetitiously broadcast to the radios.

    • A cellular telephone, in its most preferred embodiment, performs a method for notifying a digital cellular telephone user of an imminent communication disconnection. The preferred method includes, at least, generating at least one condition indication representative of at least one communication condition, analyzing the condition indication, determining whether a communication disconnection is imminent, enhancing quality of received communication signals when possible, and notifying the user of an imminent communication disconnection. Exemplary condition indications include, at least, continuous count and rate indications of frame checksum errors, insufficient quality frames, symbol errors, and chip errors, output power level indication, received signal strength indication, soft handoff status indication, other pilot signal indication, and current pilot signal strength indication. One exemplary analysis technique of determining when a communication disconnection is imminent includes evaluating whether any of a set of condition indications violates a predefined threshold indication, while other exemplary analysis techniques include evaluating whether fixed or historically adaptive combinations of condition indications violate run predefined thresholds, and evaluating combinations of condition indications weighted according to the degree of threshold violation. The process further uses a memory flag in a delayed redundant comparison before enabling a warning, examples of which include visual, sensory, and audible notification methods, including adding generated noise to the received audio signal. Alternate methods of the invention include notifying a user of an imminent inter-system handoff or an imminent change in communication mode.
