    • PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for compensating video deviation of a shuttle-type scanner are provided to print a pattern having a certain form on record paper where any data is not recorded, before video data of a manuscript is scanned, scan the printed pattern in order to store the video deviation of the scanned data, and compensate the video data by the video deviation. CONSTITUTION: A control part(15) controls a shuttle-type scanner module(2) and a print head(3). The control part(15) is connected to a ROM(16) and a RAM(17). A lamp(11) generates light in order to read the video data of the manuscript. A lamp driver(18) controls turn-on and off of the lamp(11). An image sensor(12) converts the light reflected by the manuscript to an electric analog signal. A carriage return motor(1) supplies driving power to the scanner module. A step motor(19) moves the scanner module. A buffer(20) temporarily stores video signal data from the image sensor(12). An analog switch(21) selects an amplification ratio suitable for the video signal data stored in the buffer(20). A raster part(25) divides the data which has been divided to a subordinate-scan direction, to a main-scan direction in order to compensate the data.

    • In an image reading apparatus, an image reading unit performs a reading operation to generate image data defined by the reading region. The reading region includes a first region and a second region. The image data includes first data and second data. The first data corresponds to the first region. The second data corresponds to by the second region. The original document passes through the first region and not passes through the second region. A displacing unit displaces the opposing member farther away from the image reading unit when the original document is present in the reading region than a position of the opposing member when the original document is not present in the reading region. A controller determines that an edge reaches the reading position when the second data satisfies a prescribed condition.

    • An image reading apparatus that optically reads a document includes: multiple line sensors provided approximately parallel to each other and each having light-receiving elements arranged in line form, each line sensor capturing respective line-shaped regions spanning in the main scanning direction of the document in respective color components; a movement unit that causes the positional relationship between the document and the multiple line sensors to move relative to the sub scanning direction that is orthogonal to the main scanning direction; a color skew adjustment unit that adjusts positional skew in the sub scanning direction in scan data of each of the color components captured by the multiple line sensors in synchronization with the movement caused by the movement unit, in accordance with an offset amount based on the distance between each of the multiple line sensors.
