摘要： A battery pack of the present invention includes: a battery assembly including a plurality of batteries having a sealed portion, the plurality of batteries being connected to each other; a terminal portion electrically connected to the battery assembly and outputting electric power; and a composite layer structure including a heat-absorbing layer and a heat-conductive layer layered on the heat-absorbing layer, the composite layer structure being arranged at least at a part of a periphery of the battery assembly. The heat-absorbing layer has a specific heat of 1,000 J/kg·°C or more. The heat-conductive layer has a heat conductivity of 10 W/m·K or more. This configuration allows for a small, light, and highly safe battery pack that is free from battery pack damage even when a battery in the battery pack has trouble and emits a high-temperature inflammable gas to expose the inside of the battery pack to a high-temperature environment.

摘要： A battery module includes neighboring first and second battery cells and a heat sink in contact with and configured to absorb thermal energy from each of the battery cells. The module additionally includes a module enclosure surrounded by ambient environment, housing each of the first and second battery cells and the heat sink, and configured to include a thermal conductivity path from the first cell to at least one of the second cell and the heat sink and from the heat sink to the enclosure. The battery module further includes a metal-hydroxide element configured to undergo a chemical decomposition and discharge moisture within the thermal conductivity path in response to thermal energy released by the first cell when the first cell undergoes a thermal runaway event. The metal-hydroxide element thereby controls propagation of the thermal runaway event from the first cell to the second cell.

The indicator component includes a carrier and a releasable compound that is held by the carrier. A method of coating a surface of an energy storage system, and a method of detecting the approach of thermal runaway of an energy storage system, are also provided. The method includes coating a surface with the temperature sensitive coating, providing a gas sensor in the vicinity of the surface that is capable of detecting the presence of the releasable compound, monitoring the output of the sensor, and signaling an alarm when the sensor output indicates the presence of the releasable compound.

In particular, an open-ended steel insert having two acid containers containing a muriatic-hydrochloric acid mixture heats up an electrolytic solution that flows within the battery. A magnet disposed between the acid containers generates the magnetic field. The battery may be terminal-less and use insulated leads that extend from the battery.
