As a rice cutting machine starts cutting rice plants, the rice-plant sensor 1 turns on and a rotational frequency N0 at that time is stored and held as a value when a threshing load is not applied. In an arithmetic parts 6, rotational frequencies N1 and N2 which correspond to the upper and lower limits of the load are preset, and N0-N1=M1 as a lower-limit signal and N0-N2=M2 as an upper signal are sent to the comparing circuit 5, and M2-N1 is the range of the load. Threshing is started, and the rotational frequency N varies according to variations of both the threshing and cutting loads; and the comparator 5 detects the states of the loads, and they are displayed on display devices 10-12 through an output circuit 9. Thus, the proper load state is held.

    • A linear actuator especially for adjustable furniture comprises a spindle (16) with a spindle nut (16a) for bringing about the adjustment of the article of furniture. At the end of the spindle (16) there is a bearing (17) for mounting of this in the actuator. The spindle/spindle nut (16,16a) is driven by an electric motor (27) through a transmission (28). For preventing accidents and/or damage during the adjustment of the article of furniture the actuator is equipped with a squeeze protection based on a piezo element (22). This piezo element (22) is arranged in connection with the bearing (17) for registering the forces or deflections of the forces affecting the spindle (16). In that the piezo element (22) has a through-going hole for the spindle the mounting of the piezo element (22) is simplified and further it has turned out that a particularly good signal/noise ratio is obtained.

    • A load indicator comprises a load bearing assembly of first and second load bearing members (23, 22) connected together to bear a lateral load applied to the first member (23), the first load bearing member defining a cavity (25) with the second load bearing member such that it is frangible above an indicator load, and the cavity (25) containing an indicator liquid which escapes from the cavity once the first load bearing member is fractured by said load. The load bearing members (22, 23) comprise cylindrical members arranged concentrically with the outer member (23) having a portion of reduced thickness to render it frangible and to define the cavity (25). The cavity (25) includes an internal volume within the second load bearing member (22). The load indicator may be configured as a load bearing pin to connect two components.

    • Systems and methods for passively determining when a threshold force has been exceeded. An example apparatus includes a housing and a substrate that is attached at one end to an interior portion of the housing. The substrate includes at least one conductive trace, each having two ends. The substrate is configured to fail when the threshold force has been experienced. The metal trace ends are electrically accessible from an exterior side of the housing. Prior to delivery, the housing is connected to a package that includes one or more force sensitive devices. Upon arrival of the package, the at least one conductive trace is electrically tested to determined if the substrate has failed. If the substrate has failed the package has experienced a force greater than the threshold force.

    • A press control system monitors and is responsive to the loads associated with individual die stations in a progressive die. The system detects chipped, dull, or excessively loaded portions of the progressive die and provides automatic quality monitoring of the parts produced by the press. The system provides a display of press load as a function of time scaled by the speed of the press. The press load as a function of time is automatically analyzed to determine and display the number of die stations and the peak loads associated with each die station in the progressive die. The peak loads are compared to limit values that depend in part on the past history of the press in order to monitor the condition of the progressive die and if necessary to shut down the press. The number and quality of parts produced by the press are also determined from the peak loads. Gradual wear of the die is monitored to determined when sharpening is required. To detect anomalies at any phase in the press cycle, the press load is compared between successive cycles. A master/slave computer system is disclosed for monitoring and controlling multiple presses.
