    • A laser sight that can fit conventional handguns and rifles without requiring major modification of the weapons and yet fits within the profile of the weapons framework. The invention features a chassis (12) containing an infrared and visible red laser than can be mounted in various positions, depending on the weapon selected. For a 9 mm handgun, the chassis (12) mounts on the front face of the muzzle. For an M-16, the chassis (12) mounts on the weapon handle. The weapons factory installed hand grips are replaced by modified hand grips (24) than contain the laser electronic controls, water proof activation switches, and power source. The hand grips (24) are wired to the chassis (12) via a flexible internal circuit tape in the case of the 9 mm and waterproof quick disconnect cable (20) for the M-16.

    • According to one embodiment, a system for communicating a discharge event of a firearm (16) includes a discharge sensor (14) mechanically coupled to the firearm (16). The discharge sensor (14) is operable to generate a discharge signal in response to a discharge event of the firearm. The system also includes a first node (12) in a communications network (10). The first node (12) is mechanically coupled to the firearm (16) and is in communication with the discharge sensor (14). The first node (12) is also operable to receive the discharge signal from the discharge sensor (14) and wirelessly communicate data associated with the discharge signal to a second node (12,1) in the communications network.

    • A rounds counter for a weapon mount is disclosed. The rounds counter is mounted on the mount in a remote location from the weapon itself, such as to a pedestal supporting a gimbal rotating the weapon mount in azimuth, inside an elevation drive housing, or to other structure. The mounting location is selected to be one where shock loads are relatively high, as compared to other locations on the mount. The rounds counter includes a sensor which senses shock due to the firing of the weapon, such as an accelerometer or strain gauge. The sensor could also be an acoustic transducer. Analog and digital circuitry for processing the sensor signal and to count the firing of the gun is also disclosed. The rounds counter is particularly useful as a common, single rounds counter unit for a weapon mount is adapted to receive and fire a variety of weapons, such as remotely operated weapon mounts mounted to military vehicles and patrol watercraft adapted to receive and fire four different types of guns.

The method includes providing a projectile firing gun, a target, and a signal receiver. The method further includes firing at least one projectile from the projectile firing gun. The method further includes transmitting signals from the target to the signal receiver upon impact by a projectile. Additionally, the method can further include delivering audio to the user of the system.
