    • A hydraulic oil well pumping system is provided. The system uses a pump to exert hydraulic pressure against a reciprocating piston over a wellbore. The piston is connected to a rod string and downhole pump for pumping oil from a wellbore. The system includes an electronic control system that controls movement of the piston as it moves between the upper and lower rod positions by cycling the hydraulic system between (i) an “upstroke” condition wherein the pump is pumping oil through the oil line into the hydraulic cylinder to move the piston to its upper rod position, and (ii) a “neutral” condition wherein the pump is no longer pumping oil into the hydraulic cylinder, but is allowing oil to flow back through the oil line in response to gravitational fall of the piston. The control system is programmed to cycle based upon a volumetric calculation of hydraulic oil in the cylinder without reference to position sensors along the wellhead. Wellhead conditions or placement of the hydraulic cylinder inside the wellbore may prohibit attaching physical sensors at the wellhead. A method for pumping oil from a wellbore using such a system is also provided herein.

    • A hydraulic pump jack drive system (1) for reciprocating an oil well pump rod (6). The drive system comprises at least one hydraulic well head cylinder (2), a reversible flow hydraulic pump (7), and a master cylinder (8). The master cylinder has a free floating master piston (11) and at least one fixed bulkhead. The master cylinder also has a working fluid chamber (16) hydraulically connected to the hydraulic well head cylinder and at leat two master piston drive chambers (17, 18) hydraulicallly connected to the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic well head cylinder and the working fluid chamber are filled with a working fluid and define a working fluid system while the master piston drive chambers and the hydraulic pump are filled with hydraulic fluid and define a hydraulic drive system. Reversing the flow of the hydraulic pump causes the master piston drive chambers to be pressurized and de-pressurized on an alternating basis to reciprocally move the master piston within the master cylinder. The reciprocating master piston causes an alternating pressurizing and de-pressurizing of the working fluid chamber and the well head cylinder thereby causing the pump rod to reciprocate within the oil well.

    • The pump has a first pumping means (1) to be immersed into the liquid that is to be pumped, and a second means, driving pumping means (2), adapted to drive the first pumping means. The driving pumping means has a cylinder chamber (7) which, via a conduit, for instance a bendable hose (3), communicates with the first pumping means. The cylinder chamber (7) has two mutually displacable pistons (9, 12) which, when subjected to a predetermined mutual displacement, allows liquid to flow from the cylinder chamber (7) to a discharge outlet (6) on the pump. The outer piston (9) is sealed against the cylinder chamber (7), whereas the inner piston (12) seals against the outer piston (9) only via a circular edge (20) thereon. The lower pumping means (1) has a main piston (39) which can be urged downwardly by the pistons (9, 12) in the driving pumping means against the action of a spring (41). When the pressure from the pistons in the driving pumping means ceases, the main piston will, by means of said spring (41), urge liquid up through the hose (3) and the cylinder chamber (7) to the discharge outlet.
