    • The reflective insulation unit has a rigid frame (2) consisting of a four-sided corrugated cardboard structure which is generally rectangular in cross-section, the top (4) and bottom (6) being sized to closely fit within the dimensions of a construction bay. Multiple sheets of paper and foil (16, 18) are attached to the inside surfaces (12, 14) of the sides so that the sheets are parallel to the top and bottom of the frame and to each other with a fixed spacing between the sheets. For shipping and storage purposes the frame may be folded at the corners and flattened so that the sides become parallel with the top, bottom and sheets. For installation, with the sides at right angles to the top and bottom, end pieces consisting of corrugated cardboard of the same dimension as the cross-section of the frame with tabs or flaps (23, 24, 25) folded at its edges are inserted into the open ends of the frame forming the fifth and sixth sides of a box and creating a self-framed insulating unit. The completed insulating unit may be set in place between the beams of the structure without any means of fastening to the beam, but merely a support to prevent the unit from falling.

    • A container (1) for the transport of temperature sensitive products comprises a base (10), one or more side walls (11), and a lid (12), which are made from an insulating foam and which together define a container inner space in the assembled state. Thermal insulation means are arranged in the base (10), in the one or more side walls (11), and in the lid (12). The base (10) and the one or more side walls (11) together are a single integrally formed piece (10,11). Both the said single piece (10, 11) as well as the lid (12) are produced through expansion molding. The insulation means comprise vacuum insulation panels (2) arranged in the respective walls of the single piece (10, 11) and of the lid such, that they face the inner space of the container. The preconditioned temperature storage units (3) are arranged within the container inner space to define a product containment space (4) where the products can be placed for storage or transport.

    • A thermally insulated container (20) ensures the preservation of temperature-sensitive goods during transportation. The walls of the container (20) comprise relatively thin, vacuum-sealed panels (10), which contain a rigid open-cell structure (14). The exterior of the panels (10) consists of a thin layer of plastic (12) having low gas and moisture permeability. The panels (10) can be made in six separate pieces, each representing a wall of a box, or formed together in a number of multi-panel combinations with a flexible hinge (15) separating each panel (10). Once arranged to accept temperature-sensitive goods in its cavity, the insulated container (20) can be placed in a protective enclosure (30).

    • A system and method of packaging goods that are sensitive to variations in temperature, humidity or atmospheric deterioration. In one form the packaging system comprises a relatively rigid container (10) made of, for example, fluted cardboard, having a flexible liner (12) of composite material bonded to the inner surface of the container. The composite material consists of a reflective skin (14) made of, for example, metallized polythene and thermal insulating material (16) made of, for example, open-celled plastic foam. An additional liner bag (18) of moisture impervious material may be included to protect the contents from variations in humidity and atmospheric deterioration. In a second form of the packaging system the flexible liner is in the form of a bag (24) constructed from a similar composite material comprising a reflective outer skin (26), a moisture impervious inner skin (28) and a thermal insulating material (30) therebetween. A unique method of folding the liner bag (24) and the container (10) is also described which enables the two components of the packaging system to interlock.
