    • A method for producing a thermo formed part comprises the steps of: closing in a mould a heated sheet (L) made of thermoplastic material in such a manner as to deform the latter, then cooling it inside the mould until complete consolidation is achieved; during cooling, cutting the sheet along at least one edge portion (E) thereof, this cutting operation causing a bending of the edge portion against an abutment surface (1s) in the mould; and removing the upper half-mould from the lower half-mould once the consolidation of the deformed sheet has been attained. During the cooling of the sheet inside the mould, subsequently to the cutting operation a folding operation is performed, this folding operation comprising the steps of: moving the abutment surface away from the edge portion of the sheet, and operating on the edge portion in such a manner as to resume its bending towards a support surface (2s) of the sheet in the mould.

    • A pressure forming method and apparatus for use in an injection molding machine (10) for simultaneously performing the multiple functions of forming, cutting, and molding of deep-drawn injection molded pieces. The present method and apparatus of the invention eliminates individual loading of separate multiple pieces into the mold, saving loading time, reducing cycle time, and increasing through-put. The apparatus includes a forming tool having a first part and a second part for performing a forming operation on a substrate. The apparatus further includes an injection mold having a core part and a cavity part for performing a molding operation on the substrate after it has been formed in the forming tool. The apparatus places the forming tool on unused space within the injection molding machine (10), thereby utilizing the injection molding clamping pressure to closed the forming tool and seal the pressure chamber with the substrate held therein while a pressure medium is used to from the substrate in the forming tool. The apparatus results in a process which combines the three steps of forming, cutting, and injection molding a substrate into a continuous operation performed on an injection molding machine (10).

    • A method of producing wood veneer-faced moulded items, comprising the steps of placing between a pair of heated profile forming dies, a sheet of a decorative wood veneer, and a quantity of a hot curing catalysed resin-based moulding compound containing a mixture of fillers and reinforcing fibres, with a slip sheet between the wood veneer and the adjacent die surface, and closing the dies together under a predetermined pressure and temperature and for a predetermined time. The dies interact to form an edgewise pinch line whereby excess material is trimmed in the moulding process, and further excess material is released remote from the pinch line. A wood veneer-faced moulded article is produced without the use of adhesives but with sufficient inherent integrity for use without additional reinforcement. Prior to closure of the dies, a further polymeric component may be combined with the veneer sheet which in the finished product will enhance the surface texture thereof.
