摘要： A pylon includes a first end portion connected to a patient's leg stump and a second end portion connected to a prosthetic foot. The second end portion includes a piston, and the first end portion includes a piston chamber receiving the piston. The second end portion is thus rotatable and axially movable relative to the first end portion about and along a longitudinal axis of the pylon, respectively. The piston chamber encloses a compressible volume of fluid through which substantially all of the patient's weight applied through the patient's leg stump is supported. The compressible volume of fluid is sealed so that it can be pressurized. Also, a torsional spring couples the piston and piston chamber and resists relative rotation between the piston and piston chamber without supporting any substantial portion of the patient's weight applied through the patient's leg stump to the piston. The present invention thus advantageously provides a pylon which is more cushioned and resilient than conventional pylons.

摘要： A pyramidal link-plate assembly for coupling a prosthetic limb upright assembly to another prosthetic limb component includes: a base plate member having a dome extending from a distal end and a cavity opening onto a distal apex of the dome, where the cavity includes a conically shaped portion with a diameter that widens with the distance from the distal apex of the dome; and a rotatable member which includes a substantially conically shaped body positioned within the conical portion of the cavity and which includes a frustopyramidal boss extending distally therefrom out through the opening in the distal apex of the dome. The conically shaped body of the rotatable member, positioned within the cavity, also widens with the distance from the distal apex of the dome. The boss is adapted to be received within an a central opening of a conventional annular coupling-socket. Set screws that extend radially into the central opening of the coupling socket are angled slightly distally so that when the set screws abut the outwardly angled faces of the frustopyramidal boss, further tightening of the set screws acts to pull the boss component in the distal direction, thereby causing the outer conical surface of the rotatable member's conically shaped body to press against the inner conical surface of the cavity. Accordingly, when the set screws are tightened, surface friction between the two complimentary conical surfaces prohibits further rotation of the rotatable member within the base plate member.

The foot portion extends from heel to toe and is secured to a downwardly extending lower attachment section of the ankle portion. Preferably, the foot is bifurcated by the provision of a slot in said foot and ankle portions. 摘要： A first embodiment of the present invention includes a magnetic weight bearing prosthetic socket system for coupling a prosthesis to an amputated limb. A pair of magnetic fixtures are used to hold the prosthesis in spaced apart relation with the amputated limb. One of the magnetic fixtures is implanted in the remnant bone and the other magnetic fixture is embedded in the prosthetic socket. The magnetic fixtures are magnetically oriented to oppose one another and are used to transfer loads associated with typical weight-bearing surfaces through the soft tissue covering the remnant bone without having the magnetic structures physically touch one another.A second embodiment of the present invention includes repelling magnetic fixtures implanted within opposing bones in an articulating joint to hold the bones apart during relative articulating movement of the bones in the joint.
