The primary seal ( 46 ) prevents hot plastic from passing behind the nozzle and the secondary seal ( 56 ) ensures that even if some plastic gets behind the primary seal, it will not pass behind secondary seal ( 56 ) and contact heating coil ( 33 ). The main body portion may be shaped to form a third seal ( 80 ) for engagement with the secondary sealing surface ( 54 ) behind the position of the secondary seal ( 56 ).

    • A plastic container lid is disclosed for a container having double locking flanges around its upper peripheral edge for locking engagement with the lid. The lid has a central portion in a peripheral annular skirt. The skirt has an annular groove dividing the skirt into an upper portion and a lower tear-off strip portion. The upper portion has intermittent locking flange segments for engaging one of the container locking flanges. The tear-off strip portion has a second locking flange for engaging the other of the container locking flanges. Thin membrane windows are formed in the skirt upper portion on either side of the intermittent locking flange segments and bordering on the annular groove, so that the membrane windows form weakened notches upon removal of the tear-off strip portion to facilitate upward deflection of the lid annular skirt in the area of the intermittent flange segments to facilitate removal of the lid.

    • An insert system for an injection mold apparatus is provided. The mold has a mold cavity plate (14) and a mold core plate (12) each secured to mold bases (16, 18), relatively movable between open and closed positions, each having opposing faces, the faces meeting to define a mold cavity between the two faces. At least one of the mold plate faces defines a facial pocket (40) therein for insertion of a mold insert (30). The mold insert is secured to an insert rod (36). The mold plate having the facial pocket (40) defines a passageway (46) extending from the facial pocket through the plate (12) and mold base (16). The insert rod is insertable into the passageway to a position where the insert sits within said facial pocket at a prelock position, where said insert is only partially inserted into said facial pocket. Preferably the insert is biased in this prelock position. Locking means (64, 66, 38, 70, 74, 76, 101, 63A, 63B) is operably connected to the insert rod (36), operable from the periphery of said mold base, to releasably lock the insert rod within said passage and thus the insert from said prelock position to a fully inserted position where the insert sits flush with the mold plate face.

    • A method of removing components of an injection mold machine, comprising a core assembly including a master core plate (1), a core plate (2) releasably secured to said master core plate, said master core plate including guide means (9) for guiding said core plate (2) relative to said master core plate (1); a core insert (3) secured to said core plate (2); a cavity assembly comprising a manifold plate (6), a first cavity plate (5) releasably secured to the manifold plate (6), a cavity insert (4) attached to the cavity plate (5), said cavity assembly moveable relative to the core assembly such that the cavity insert (4) and core insert (3) may be selectively mated together to define a cavity therebetween, said method comprising the steps of: (a) moving the core assembly and cavity assembly into a closed position whereat the cavity insert and core insert are mated together; (b) securing said core plate to said cavity plate, thereby forming a mold module; (c) releasing the securing means which secures the cavity plate to the manifold plate; (d) opening the mold from the closed position, until the first cavity plate disengages the manifold plate and all connections thereto, (e) releasing the securing means which secures the core plate to the master core plate; (f) lifting said mold module in a direction perpendicular to the direction of motion between said open and closed position, said module being guided in said perpendicular direction by said guide means.
