    • A telephone network interface apparatus comprising a cabinet housing a chassis having a planar surface with openings to receive one or more modular terminal panels. The cabinet includes a splicing chamber at one side to receive incoming telephone company cables for connection to the module panel terminals therein. The module terminal panels comprise self-supporting panels carrying protector and electronics fields formed by plug-in type blocks for receiving protector plugs and electronics plugs respectively. A housing encloses the protector and electronics fields and is provided with a lockable door to form a telephone company compartment. Also mounted on the panel is a network interconnection device (NID). The NID is removably attached to the panel by a bracket and mating type connector. The NID includes plug-in jack connections such as RJ11s. The protector and electronics plug-in sockets are wired in series with the NID RJ11 connectors. The capacity of the building entrance terminal may be increased by adding modular panels as the need arises. The cabinets may be utilized either indoors or outdoors and may be wall or pedestal mounted. The modular construction provides for economical and quick replaceability of components.

    • A method and system for providing mobile access to message delivery into the existing public telecommunications network. A portable handset and transceiver have storage capacity and a processor for digitizing and time compressing messages inputted by the operator into the handset. Upon command of the handset operator the stored message is transmitted to a fixed site transceiver having storage capacity. The two transceivers are locked into communication by suitable handshake protocols. The fixed site transceiver is linked to the public switched telecommunications network and delivers the message stored in the fixed site storage to voice messaging service storage in the public telecommunications network. The message thus stored is either delivered as by call completion service or retrieved by the addressee as in voice mail service. In both cases the signal from the VMS storage is processed to perform digital to analog conversion along with time decompression or expansion. The addressee, handling procedures, and billing information are incorporated into the original message in the handset transceiver. Periodic beacon signals may be provided at the fixed site transceiver to facilitate location thereof by the portable handset and transceiver.

    • A broadcast system supplies multiplexed channels to a plurality of receiving systems. The broadcast system preferably comprises a wireless digital simulcasting network. Each multiplexed channel carries multiplexed digital information signals relating to a group of programs. At least one of the receiving systems serves a plurality of living units. The multi-unit receiving system includes common equipment to perform as much of the processing of the digital information signals as is practical for the particular installation. The common equipment includes a digital receiver processing each multiplexed channel to capture a digital transport stream therefrom and a demultiplexer for separating out the digital information signals for each program from each digital transport stream. A switch routes selected information signals to individual drops or loops going to the living units. In one implementation, each digital information signal is modulated, and selected modulated signals are routed and transported over telephone wiring to terminals in the living units. The terminals demodulate and decode selected program signals for presentation on a television. In a second implementation, a decoder in the common equipment decodes each digital information signal, and the common equipment transmits an analog television channel carrying decoded signals for selected programs over coaxial cables to the living units. In this implementation, the added equipment required in a living unit includes only a remote control, an infrared receiver and a data device to transmit program request messages over coaxial cable to the common equipment.
