    • A fuel supply control method for controlling the quanity of fuel being supplied to an internal combustion engine, in a feedback manner responsive to the output of a means for detecting the concentration of an ingredient in exhaust gases emitted from the engine. When the engine is operating in a predetermined low speed operating region wherein the rotational speed of the engine is lower than a predetermined speed higher than the idling speed and the intake pipe absolute pressure is higher than a predetermined value higher than a value normally assumed at idle of the engine, the above feedback control is interrupted and the fuel quantity is increased by a predetermined amount so as to make the air/fuel ratio of a mixture being supplied to the engine richer than a theoretical mixture ratio. Preferably, the above predetermined speed and predetermined intake pipe absolute pressure applied for determination of the operating condition of the engine in the predetermined low speed operating region are each set to different values between when the operation of the engine enters the predetermined low speed operating region and when it leaves the same region.

    • A fuel supply control method for internal combustion engines, which is capable of stabilizing the engine rotational speed to a desired idling speed immediately after the rotational speed of the engine at idle suddenly changes due to an external disturbance such as a change in the electrical load on the engine. The fuel quantity to be supplied to the engine is determined in accordance with operating conditions of the engine in the idling condition, and the determined fuel quantity is corrected by a correction value which is determined in response to the difference between a desired idling speed of the rotational speed of the engine and an actual value thereof. When the absolute value of a detected rate of change in the rotational speed of the engine is larger than a predetermined value, the correction value is corrected to thereby correct the determined fuel quantity.

    • A method for controlling the quatity of fuel being supplied to an internal combustion engine, immediately after termination of a fuel cut operation which is carried out when the engine is operating in a predetermined operating region while it is decelerating. The fuel quantity is controlled to a required value after termination of a fuel cut operation, by increasing a quantity of fuel set at least as a function of intake pipe pressure by an increment which is set in synchronism with generation of pulses of a predetermined control signal. The increase of the fuel quantity is effected for a period of time after a transition of the operative state of the engine from the fuel cut operation to a normal operation wherein fuel supply is effected has been detected and before a predetermined number of pulses of the above control signal are generated, so long as the magnitude of a variation or change in the rotational speed of the engine is determined to be larger than a predetermined value. Preferably, the increase of fuel quantity is effected only when the rotational speed of the engine is below a predetermined value of rpm. Further, while the magnitude of a variation in the rotational speed of the engine is smaller than the above predetermined value, the increase of the fuel quantity is prohibited, and instead the fuel quantity is determined as a function of a value of intake pipe pressure which is set by subtracting a value dependent upon the engine rotational speed from a detected value of intake pipe absolute pressure, until all the engine cylinders are supplied with fuel after the transition to the normal operation of the engine has been detected.

    • A method for detecting an abnormality in the functioning of an electronic control system of the type including at least one input means, and at least one output means, wherein the input means is operable to detect the value of a parameter determining the operation of the output means and generate a signal indicative of the detected parameter value, on the basis of which the operation of the output means is controlled. First, a determination is made as to whether or not a predetermined condition exists wherein determination of the above abnormality can be effected. When the predetermined abnormality detection-permitting condition exists, it is determined whether or not the above detected parameter signal value from the input means or an operating amount signal indicative of the operation of the output means has a value satisfying a predetermined condition of normal operation. When the detected parameter signal value is determined not to show a value satisfying the above predetermined condition of normal operation, the time elapsing from the determination of dissatisfaction of the same condition is counted. When satisfaction of the predetermined condition of normal operation is determined before the counted elapsed time value reaches a predetermined value, the counting is interrupted. When the counted elapsing time value reaches the predetermined value, it is diagnosed that an abnormality exists in the functioning of the above corresponding input means or output means. When a predetermined abnormality detection-prohibiting condition exists after the counting of the elapsed time has been started and before the counted elapsed time value reaches the above predetermined value, the counting is also interrupted. The present abnormality detecting method can advantageously be applied to an electronic control system for internal combustion engines.

    • A method for controlling a control system which controls an internal combustion engine, in response to at least one control parameter including intake pipe pressure, immediately after termination of a fuel cut operation. When a transition is detected from an operating condition of the engine requiring interruption of fuel supply to the engine to an operating condition of the engine requiring fuel supply to the engine, a value of the intake pipe pressure detected by pressure sensor means is changed by a predetermined amount, from a time immediately after the above transition has been detected to a time the engine finishes a predetermined number of strokes after the transition, and the value of the intake pipe pressure thus changed is applied for controlling the above engine control system. Preferably, the predetermined amount by which a detected value of the intake passage absolute pressure is reduced is set to a value corresponding to a difference between a value of intake passage pressure occurring at non-combustion operation of the engine and a value of intake passage pressure occurring at normal combustion operation of the engine, so far as the rotational speed of the engine is the same between the above two operations of the engine. The above engine control system includes a fuel injection system which controls the quantity of fuel being supplied to the engine at least in response to the intake pipe pressure.
