    • A blood treatment catheter pre-assembled with a stiffening tube is provided. The catheter includes a withdrawal lumen and a supply lumen each having distal split tube unjoined segments and an intermediate joined segment. The split tube segment of the supply lumen is provided with a sidewall aperture. The stiffening tube extends through the withdrawal split tip tube, out the distal end of the withdrawal tube, through the aperture of the supply split tip tube and through the split tip supply tube distal of the aperture, out the distal end of the split tip supply tube. When the stiffening tube is positioned inside the catheter, the aperture is adjacent to the withdrawal tube distal opening so as to minimize stiffening tube exposure and to provide a smooth exterior profile. In a preferred design, the tubes and their lumens, over their common length, are semi-circular to provide a circular profile for the catheter.

    • An inflatable balloon, and method of making same, for a medical catheter includes a base layer or non-compliant balloon substrate, a reinforcing layer, an adhesive. layer adhering the reinforcing layer to the non-compliant balloon substrate, and a top coat layer. The reinforcing layer is a single ply matrix of interwoven strands applied to the non-compliant balloon substrate. There are preferably three sets of strands in the single ply matrix. One set of strands extends in a longitudinal direction. Another set of strands extends circumferentially in a helical fashion with a clockwise orientation at an angle of approximately 65° with the strands that extend in the longitudinal direction. The third set of strands extends circumferentially in a helical fashion with a counter-clockwise orientation at an angle of approximately 65° with the strands that extend in the longitudinal direction. The three sets of strands are interwoven with one another by a braiding machine so as to provide a single ply of interwoven strands to achieve a uniform, reproducible reinforcing matrix.

    • A catheter assembly for introducing material into the vascular system has an elongated catheter body forming a lumen with a hole at its distal end thereof, a catheter hub positioned at the proximal end of the catheter body and an occluding wire hub detachably connected with the catheter hub. The occluding wire hub has a cavity and an opening therethrough for communication with the lumen in order to provide for the introduction of infusion fluid into the lumen. An occluding wire, having a proximal end and a distal end, is positioned so that it extends from the occluding wire hub through the catheter hub and the lumen. The distal end of the occluding wire has an occluding region adapted to engage the distal end hole. The proximal end of the occluding wire terminates within the occluding wire hub and has an anchor positioned within the hub cavity to prevent removal of the wire from the occluding wire hub when the occluding wire hub is disconnected and removed from the catheter body. The anchor, which is contained within the hub cavity, is movable between a proximal position and a distal position within the cavity. A compression spring has a distal end fixed to the occluding wire and a proximal end positioned within said occluding wire hub to thereby urge the wire in the distal direction into an occluding position.
