    • In order to measure a static field distribution with one scanning operation and to make image distortion corrections with the static field distribution and a gradient field distribution simultaneously considered, an image is reconstructed using a spin echo signal produced under the condition that a time interval between a 90.degree. pulse and a 180.degree. pulse differs from an interval between the 180.degree. pulse and the time origin of the spin echo signal, the static field distribution is evaluated from the relation of distortions to phase errors free from a phase distortion attributed to the characteristic of a detecting part and a phase distortion attributed to the dynamic characteristic of the gradient field, a relations existing between the spatial distortion and phase distortion of the reconstructed image and a magnetic field distribution including the gradient field is obtained, and the distortion magnitude of the reconstructed image is evaluated from the measured magnetic field distribution.

    • Light from a light source emitting a line spectrum is passed through an absorbing cell. A metal element is enclosed in the absorbing cell, and the temperature of the absorbing cell is controlled to maintain a predetermined atomic vapor pressure of the metal element. This absorbing cell is disposed in the gap between the poles of an electromagnet. A linear polarizer is disposed between the light source and the absorbing cell. Light passed through the absorbing cell is led via a spectroscope toward a light sensor. While the light is being directed from the light source toward the absorbing cell, the value of current supplied to the electromagnet is changed to vary the intensity of the magnetic field. With the field intensity variation, the wavelength of a component split from the absorption line of the atomic vapor in the absorbing cell is shifted. This wavelength-shifted component is scanned along the wavelength of the line spectrum emitted from the light source, whereby the profile of the emission line spectrum can be measured.

    • A method of and an apparatus for inspecting a physical portion having physiological movement, for example, the abdominal region moving with breathing, by utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance. The circumstances of that area of the surface of the abdominal region which exists on a plane indicative of a slice to be imaged, is made different from the circumstances of the surface of the remaining physical portion. In this case, a person to be inspected feels a foreign matter at the abdominal region, and suppresses the movement of the abdominal region due to breathing, consciously and unconsciously, thereby moving the breast with breathing. Thus, the to-be-inspected abdominal region is kept quiet, and an accurate inspection can be made in a short period of time.
