    • An outer covering wall (26) and an inner covering wall (27), which are capable of surrounding a rotor (24), can be horizontally moved.     • A compact variable attenuator, composite variable attenuator, and mobile communication apparatus capable of variably controlling attenuation continuously. The variable attenuator includes a first comb line comprising first and second lines which are electromagnetically coupled with a coupling coefficient M, a second comb line comprising third and fourth lines which are electromagnetically coupled with a coupling coefficient M, and first and second diodes connected to the third and fourth lines of the second comb line. A first terminal is connected to one end of the first line and a second terminal is connected to one end of the second line. The first and second diodes are connected between one end of each of the third and fourth lines and a ground with their anodes connected to one end of each of the third and fourth lines, respectively. First and second control terminals for turning the first and second diodes on and off are connected at the junction of other end of the first line and the other end of the third line and at the junction of the other end of the second line and the other end of the fourth line via resistors.

    • A resin chain is provided which includes a reinforcing plate and a resin portion having a contact surface therebetween such that it is difficult to separate the reinforcing plate from the resin portion at the contact surface. The resin chain includes outer plates with pins fitted therein and inner plates with bushings fitted therein. The outer plates and the inner plates are connected to each other in an alternate manner. A first reinforcing plate is a constituent of each outer plate. The first reinforcing plate has a pair of cylindrical front and rear boss portions with pins fitted therein and a flange portion which rises radially from the outer peripheries of the boss portions to connect the paired front and rear boss portions to each other. A second reinforcing plate is a constituent of each inner plate. The second reinforcing plate has a pair of cylindrical front and rear boss portions with bushings fitted therein and a flange portion which rises radially from the outer peripheries of the boss portion to connect the paired front and rear boss portions to each other. Resin is molded along the surfaces of the flange portions front the outer peripheries of the cylindrical boss portions so as to fill up recesses formed between the boss portions and the flange portions. The outer and inner plates are also fabricated in this way.

    • A chain capable of diminishing noise and wear occurring at the time of engagement of the chain with a sprocket is provided. At least a portion of an inner surface of each inner plate, which comes into opposition to a side face of a tooth top of the sprocket at the time of engagement of the chain with the sprocket, is chamfered in a shape conforming to the contour of a side tooth form of the sprocket tooth top. Since a chamfered portion of an inner surface of each inner plate has a shape conforming to the contour of a side tooth form of a sprocket tooth top, the chamfered portion and the sprocket tooth top come into contact with each other smoothly in a state of face-to-face contact, so that the level of noise generated upon engagement of the chain with the sprocket can be reduced and it is possible to suppress the wear of the inner surface of the inner plate and that of the tooth top of the sprocket.
