    • An optical connector cleaning tool which wipes to clean a joining end face of an optical connector by a feeding movement of a cleaning body. It includes a tool body which incorporates a feeding mechanism that supplies and takes up the cleaning body, and an insertion part which inserts into a connector housing hole of a positioning housing for connectors. The insertion part has a head member on which is formed a pressing face that presses the cleaning body against the joining end face within the connector housing hole, and is capable of moving in a direction of extension or contraction relative to the tool body. Movement of the tool body in an insertion direction relative to the insertion part in a state where the cleaning body is in contact with the joining end face causes the head member to axially rotate while the state of contact is maintained.

    • In a light modulating apparatus for an excimer discharge lamp high frequency voltage whose frequency is 1000 Hz band or higher is applied to the excimer discharge lamp and light is modulated by changing the frequency of the high frequency voltage, on-time per ½ cycle of the frequency is set so that the on-time is approximately equal to charging time for acquiring electric charges which contribute to light emission of the excimer discharge lamp, whereby stable light modulation is possible. Further, the high frequency voltage is modulated by rectangular waveform voltage having low frequency which is lower than that of the high frequency voltage whereby light can be stably modulated in a wide range.

    • In a muffler for internal combustion engine which is provided with a valve capable of closing and opening an open end of by-pass inner pipe, the opening and closing operation of the valve is performed via the exhaust gas pressure, without being affected by external factors. Also, the structure is simple and easy to be assembled. On a fixed shaft (36) supported in the vicinity of an open end (28a) of a by-pass inner pipe (28) is a valve (32) rotatably mounted. The valve (32) is urged against the open end (28a) by a coil spring (42), and when fitted in a flange part (38), it closes the open end (28a). When the revolving speed of the internal combustion engine is low, the pressure inside the by-pass inner pipe (28) is smaller than the operative force which is an addition of the urging force by the coil spring (42) and the external pressure. The open end (28a) is therefore closed. On the other hand, when the revolving speed rises and the pressure has increased to a predetermined pressure, their relation is reversed. Specifically, the valve retracts from the open end (28a) thereby placing the by-pass inner pipe (28) in a communicated condition.

The spring pressing portion is divided into two half bodies. Since the spring pressing portion is divided into two parts, at the time of assembly of the optical connector, the optical ferrule is attached to the optical fibers and is terminated, and then the optical fibers can be covered with the spring pressing portion. At the time of the terminating operation, since there is no spring pressing portion that causes interference in the operation, it is easy to perform the terminating operation of the optical ferrule.
