    • An image forming apparatus includes a conveying unit that conveys a recording medium in a predetermined direction, a thermal transfer sheet traveling unit that causes a thermal transfer sheet to travel in a predetermined direction, a modification sheet moving unit that moves a surface modification sheet, a thermal head that applies thermal energy and thermally transfers sequentially a dye layer and a protective layer of the thermal transfer sheet onto the recording medium while the dye layer or the protective layer opposes the surface of the recording medium, and a modification sheet protecting unit disposed in a movement path of the surface modification sheet, and configured to prevent adhesion of dust to the surface modification sheet or to eliminate the adhesion. After forming the image onto the recording medium using the thermal transfer sheet and forming the protective layer that protects the image, the surface modification portion of the surface modification sheet is aligned with a plane in which the protective layer is formed, so that heat and pressure are applied by the thermal head to modify the surface state of the protective layer formed at the recording medium.

    • A drug preparation system which can indicate which drug processing or inspection station or stations are busy so that drugs can be prepared in an optimum way. Patient data recorded on prescriptions received at a pharmacy reception is entered into a host computer through an input device. On command of the host computer, patient data are transferred to respective drug processing units. Each processing unit enters time data including drug preparation completion time into trays with a memory function for collecting drugs prepared. The drugs collected in each tray are inspected and sent to a drug pickup window, where the time data are transferred to a data processing unit. Based on the transferred data, a total processing time in each station is displayed on a display.

    • A drug storage/discharge apparatus having a cleaning time determining device which can detect dirt in drug discharge paths and determine when it is necessary to clean the discharge paths. A motor control circuit controls each feeder to discharge drugs from the feeder through its discharge opening. A light-emitting diode and a phototransistor are provided opposite to each other at the discharge opening. A drug discharged from the feeder intercepts the light from the light-emitting diode, thus fluctuating the output of the phototransistor. Based on the output fluctuation, the motor control circuit can confirm that a drug has been discharged. A low-pass filter is provided to apply only a low-frequency component of the output of the phototransistor to a comparator. Such low-frequency components represent to what degree the light-emitting diode and phototransitor are soiled. If the level of the low-frequency components drops below a reference voltage, the comparator produces a voltage Vh to indicate that the drug discharge paths have been soiled.
