    • A surgical tool includes a surgical blade configured to be moved to form an incision. The surgical tool also includes a wire configured to cause movement of the surgical blade. The surgical tool further includes an actuator configured to shorten a length of the wire to cause the movement of the surgical blade. The surgical tool could be configured to move the surgical blade in a first direction and then in a second direction in response to a single shortening of the wire. Also, the wire could represent a first wire, the surgical tool could include a second wire, and the surgical tool could be configured to move the surgical blade in a first direction in response to shortening the first wire and to move the surgical blade in a second direction in response to shortening the second wire.

    • Provided is an ergonomic cutting device for cutting casts and other rigid objects comprising an oscillating cutting blade driven by a motor, a handle, and a vacuum system. The present cutting device is designed such that the offset positioning of the motor enables the weight of the motor to help manipulate and make more efficient the device. The vacuum system cools the device and draws dust produced by the cutting blade through the device without contacting the dust with the motor or other mechanical components. The motor is designed to initially engage in an idle mode when the device is turned on, then automatically sense when a load is placed on the cutting blade and, at that point, boost to a cutting mode. The motor may also be manually placed in a higher powered turbo mode. The device also includes a dynamic braking system which enables the device to stop oscillation of the blade faster than previous device.

    • There is disclosed herein a haircutting device or aid which has a pair of movable members which can be slid through the hair and moved to lift a section of hair for cutting. The device comprises a handle which is held in the hand of the user, a lower comb section and an upper comb section. The upper comb section has connected therewith a lever which allows the upper comb section to be raised with respect to the lower comb section to lift the length of hair. Preferably the lower comb section includes a smooth "comb" base member which can slide along the scalp, and the upper comb section terminates in a comb having a plurality of teeth which likewise move through the hair of the scalp and lift the length of hair to be cut. Scissors are used in a conventional manner along the upper comb member to cut the hair extending beyond the lifted length. The lower comb section is adjustable with respect to the handle which, in turn, enables adjustment of the length of hair to be lifted for cutting. A locking mechanism locks the position of the lower comb member with respect to the handle to select and fix the desired adjustment. Removable comb members are disclosed. An alternative arrangement which provides a slidable stop member also is disclosed. The components can all be molded of plastic.

    • A connector is provided between an I.V. or syringe supply and a Y-tube for feeding liquid medication to a patient. The connector is an integrally formed tube having a recessed needle which is factory mounted into the distal end of the connector. At its proximal end, the tube wall of the connector defines a slot which, when rotated, will engage and form a secure lock with the sidearm portion of the Y-tube. A sterile septum is mounted within the Y-tube, and the needle penetrates the septum during use, thereby maintaining sterility. Also, since the needle is recessed, asccidental needle sticks will be reduced.In another embodiment, the connector tube wall defines an elongate recess, and a slotted closure cap is mounted at the proximal end of the connector. The connector is fitted over the Y-tube so that the cap slot and recess coincide with the junction of the Y-tube sidearm and the Y-tube. When the cap is turned, the slot will move out of coincidence with the recess and the sidearm, causing the connector and Y-tube to lock.
