    • The invention relates to a radio base station (102) and method in a radio base station of a cellular communications system (100) for controlling self-interference. The radio base station (102) supports communication with a user equipment (101) using multiple uplink and multiple downlink carriers (104a, 104b, 105a, 105b). The method comprises detecting a degraded downlink performance on a downlink carrier (105a) due to self-interference by determining that a set of predefined conditions applies. The method further comprises executing, in response to detection of the degraded downlink performance, an action to reduce self-interference between the uplink and downlink carriers (104a, 104b, 105a, 105b). The action is one of: uplink scheduling to reduce self-interference, deactivation of a secondary uplink carrier (14a, 104b), deactivation of a secondary downlink carrier (105a, 105b), and initiation of carrier reconfiguration to reduce self-interference. Accordingly, benefits of using multi-carrier operation may be balanced against a possible associated drawback of degraded downlink performance due to self-interference.

    • Levels of power reduction for signals to be transmitted from a mobile communications device via radio channels in a digital wireless communications system, where each signal is modulated according to one of a number of modulation configurations, are determined. For each modulation configuration a first estimate of a power reduction is calculated (101), and the calculated first estimates are storied (102) in the device. The method comprises the steps of determining (103) a limited set of modulation configurations, said limited set comprising modulation configurations that have been determined likely to be used in practice; calculating (104) for each modulation configuration of the limited set an optimized estimate of a power reduction; and storing (105) the calculated optimized estimates in the device. In this way the power consumption of the device is reduced while keeping a look-up table at a reasonable size.

    • A radio receiver adapted to alternatively receive data over a communication channel in a first mode and a second mode. The second mode facilitates reception of data at higher data rates than the first mode. The radio receiver comprises a signal-processing unit and a control unit. The signal processing unit is adapted to determine a quality condition of the communication channel. The control unit is adapted to determine, based on the quality condition, whether the communication channel facilitates operation in the second mode and assess at least one configuration condition, one of the at least one configuration condition being that the communication channel is determined to facilitate operation in the second mode. The control unit is further adapted to configure the radio receiver to operate in the second mode when all of at least one configuration condition are fulfilled or to operate in the first mode otherwise. A method for controlling the radio receiver is also disclosed.

    • Methods and apparatus are disclosed for reducing mobile terminal energy consumption during data transmissions by allocating resources and adapting link parameters in an energy-aware manner, based on throughput requirements and prevailing signal propagation conditions. A combination of transmit parameters designed to minimize the total energy consumed during data transmission is selected based on a throughput requirement and a path loss associated with a data transmission by a mobile terminal. The combination of transmit parameters includes a bandwidth allocation and may also include a modulation format, coding scheme, and transmit power setting, as well as parameters relating to multiple-antenna transmit schemes. The bandwidth allocation may correspond to a number of sub-carriers of an OFDM signal, or may correspond to a number of resource blocks in an SC-FDMA signal.
