    • A return path is efficiently and advantageously provided for alternate discharge current flowing between X and Y driver circuits arranged on right and left sides of an AC-driven gas discharge display device of especially a plasma tube array type. The AC-driven gas discharge display device comprises a front-side, transparent substrate and a rear-side substrate sandwiching a plurality of thin discharge tubes arranged side by side. The front-side substrate has, on an inner surface thereof, a plurality of pairs of display electrode. The rear-side substrate has, on an inner surface thereof, a plurality of address electrodes in a direction transverse to the plurality of display electrodes. In the display device, striped light-blocking, electrically conductive films are formed on an outer surface of the front-side substrate at locations corresponding to locations between respective ones of the pairs of display electrode. The light-blocking, electrically conductive films are coupled at their opposite ends to respective points of common reference potential in the X- and Y-electrode driver circuits, respectively, to provide a return path for alternate discharge current.

    • A light-emitting tube array display device includes a light-emitting tube array, a flexible sheet and a plurality of electrodes. The light-emitting tube array is constituted of a plurality of light-emitting tubes arranged in parallel. Each of the light-emitting tubes consists of narrow tube having a phosphor layer disposed and discharge gas filled inside. The flexible sheet is capable of flatly supporting the light-emitting tube array and deforming the light emitting tube array in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the light-emitting tubes. The plurality of electrodes are formed on a face of the flexible sheet opposed to the light-emitting tubes, which are capable of generating discharge inside the light-emitting tubes by an application of voltage. Each of the electrodes is formed of a metal film having a mesh pattern, a ladder pattern, or a comb-shape pattern.

    • A display device has a screen made of a substrate and a group of elongated illuminators that are arranged on the substrate. Elongated electrode supporters are arranged on at least one side of the illuminators in the width direction. The elongated electrode supporter has plural electrodes that am spaced along the longitudinal direction of the illuminator and define corresponding discharge cells. A wiring conductive pattern is formed on the substrate for supplying electricity to the plural electrodes of the electrode supporter. Selective light emission from the discharge cells of the illuminator is controlled by signals applied to the wiring conductive pattern and the plural electrodes.
