The liquid crystal optical element in accordance with the present invention includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal provided between the first and second substrates, an electrode pattern formed on one of the first and second substrates and having an aperture control field and an aberration compensation field, and an opposite electrode, which is formed on the other one of the first and second electrodes, for applying a voltage between the electrode pattern and itself.

摘要： The present invention provides a compact liquid crystal optical element for optical modulation and a compact optical device. A liquid crystal optical element for optical modulation is prepared by connecting two transparent substrates, each formed with a transparent electrode and an orientation film, with a sealing member, leaving a clearance between the two transparent substrates. On at least one surface of at least one of these transparent substrates, a diaphragm is formed using a shielding member. With this arrangement, it is possible to provide a more compact liquid crystal optical element than has been conventionally available. At the same time, it is possible to substantially reduce the occurrence of noise. Therefore, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal optical element and an optical device having excellent performance.

摘要： A compact liquid crystal optical element for optical modulation and a compact optical device. A liquid crystal optical element for optical modulation is prepared by connecting two transparent substrates, each formed with a transparent electrode and an orientation film, with a sealing member, leaving a clearance between the two transparent substrates. On at least one surface of at least one of these transparent substrates, a diaphragm is formed using a shielding member. With this arrangement, it is possible to provide a more compact liquid crystal optical element than has been conventionally available. At the same time, it is possible to substantially reduce the occurrence of noise. Therefore, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal optical element and an optical device having excellent performance.

摘要： An optical apparatus provided with a focusing optics (104) for focusing linearly polarized light has a construction wherein an optical rotatory element (103) having a region for optically rotating a polarization axis of the linearly polarized light in at least a portion thereof is disposed in the optical path of the linearly polarized light so as to differentiate locally the orientation of the polarization axis of the linearly polarized light falling thereon. The optical rotatory element (103) is preferably composed of a &thgr;° optically rotatable region (103a) capable of optically rotating a polarization axis of the linearly polarized light falling thereon by an optional angle &thgr;°, and a (&thgr;−90)° optically rotatable region (103b) capable of optically rotating a polarization axis of the linearly polarized light falling thereon substantially by an angle of (&thgr;−90)°. By disposing the optical rotatory element (103) in the optical path of the linearly polarized light, and by differentiating locally the orientation of the polarization axis of the linearly polarized light falling thereon superresolved images can be formed without attenuating amount of light.

摘要： A flat motor suitable for driving the fan of an internal combustion engine includes a stationary cover member in the form of a disk adapted to be fixedly secured to a stationary support and a shaft secured at one end to the center of the cover member. A permanent magnet ring is secured to the cover member about the shaft and a rotor of synthetic resin material having an electric coil embedded therein is rotatably mounted on a shaft by means of a ball bearing which supports the entire weight of the shaft. A commutator ring assembly is secured to one side of the rotor and a bearing sleeve is mounted between the commutator ring and the shaft. A yoke is provided on the opposite side of the electrical coil from the permanent magnet and may be comprised of a plurality of disks of magnetic material secured in the resin material. A disk of soft magnetic material having a fan assembly integrally molded about the outer periphery thereof is secured to the rotor in engagement with the disk comprising the yoke. The disk could be eliminated and the fan supporting disk could be disposed in contact with the rotor adjacent the electric coil to act as the yoke.

When the bimetallic element is heated upon energization of the heating coil, deflection of the bimetallic element is assisted by snap action to open the cut-off valve so as to communicate the first and second ports to each other through the hermetic chamber.
