    • A method, computer program product and system for reducing the boot time of a client device in a client device/data center environment. A profile of the client device, which includes information regarding the usage characteristics of the client device, may be created. A confidence level indicating the likelihood that the client device is going to be booted may be determined based on the client device's profile. The confidence level and the utilization of the resources of the server blades in the data center may be examined in determining whether to have an appropriate server blade perform an action involved in booting the operating system of the client device. If the appropriate server blade performs such an action, e.g., pre-booting the client device's operating system, prior to the user of the client device attempting to boot its operating system, then the boot time may be reduced.

    • Disclosed is a personal computer system which includes a central processing unit (CPU) coupled to a direct access storage device (DASD), a random access memory (RAM), and a LAN controller. A flash memory module is coupled to the CPU and an input/output (IO) bus and includes a basic input output system (BIOS) stored therein. The BIOS is effective for responding to the energization of the computer system by initiating a power on self test (POST). The BIOS is further operative on completion of the POST for transferring a portion of BIOS from the module to the RAM and for transferring control of the of the computer system to the BIOS portion. The portion of BIOS is operative to load a protected mode operating system (OS) into RAM and transfer control to the OS. The system further includes a logic circuit coupled to the flash memory module and the IO bus. A communication subsystem is coupled to the IO bus, the logic circuit and the flash memory for allowing the remote computer to access the BIOS in flash memory while the protected mode OS is running.

    • An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for combining multiple displays on multiple portable electronic computer devices to form a larger display. For each device, a configuration module configures a first display to combine with one or more additional displays of one or more additional electronic computer devices to form the larger display. The first display may be configured to provide a portion of the larger display. A display orientation module determines an orientation of the first display with respect to the one or more additional displays to form the larger display. A detection module detects a presence of the one or more additional electronic computer devices and determines that the detected additional electronic computer devices are compatible with the first display to combine to form a larger display.

    • An improved system for tracking luggage and other such objects. The system features a transmitter tag for attachment to an object to be tracked and a receiver. When the tag comes within range of the receiver, the receiver provides notification to the user both visually and audibly. Audible notification can occur through the receiver's speaker, a wireless phone, a PDA, or an iPod or other portable music player. GPS capabilities allow the tag to store and transmit its exact coordinates to assist in locating the tag. Airport and airline security personnel can access the tag data with a dedicated interface device.
