    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the rectifying effect of a catalyst carrier by constituting a honeycomb body as a precarrier disposed on the upstream side of an exhaust gas flow from heat-resistance alloy flat foils and wavy foils in a wound state in such a manner that the face of the body where the exhaust gas enters is convex while the face where the gas outgoes is concave. SOLUTION: In the catalyst converter for purification of the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, a conical part 18 and a part 11 which a reduced diameter are disposed in the front and on the back of a main carrier 3 which mainly purifies the exhaust gas, and the top end of each part is connected to the passage of the exhaust gas. A precarrier 15 is disposed in the conical part 18 to rectify the exhaust gas flow entering the main carrier 3. The precarrier 15 is a honeycomb body 1 produced by winding heat-resistant alloy flat foils and wave foils and joining all or a part of contact part between the flat foils and the wavy foils. The honeycomb body 1 is formed in such a manner that the face where the exhaust gas enters 13 is convex, while the face where the exhaust gas outgoes 14 is concave, and that the thickness of the honeycomb body 1 is 4 to 40 mm in any part.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost of a metallic carrier by inserting a honeycomb body which is alternately wound and superposed with corrugated foil and flat foil on each other and has the corrugated foil on its outermost periphery into a metallic outside cylinder and joining the inside of this honeycomb body and the outside cylinder by a binder. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical honeycomb body 1 is produced by superposing and spirally winding the corrugated foil 3 having the peak parts of waveforms exhibiting a pseudo sinusoidal waveform and the flat foil 3. The outer periphery of such honeycomb body is composed of the corrugated foil 2. Such honeycomb body is press fitted into the outside cylinder 4. The peak parts of the waveforms of the corrugated foil 2 are formed to a shape having a curvature of radius R=0.2 to 0.6m. Namely, the press fitting of the honeycomb body 1 at a wide press fitting margin is possible at the time of press fitting the honeycomb body into the outside cylinder 4 if the radius of curvature R is in this range. Next, the ends of the honeycomb body 1 are made flush and are brought into contact with sponge impregnated with a binder liquid to simultaneously supply the binders necessary for joining the outside cylinder 4 and the honeycomb body 1 and joining the honeycomb body 1 itself. Powder solder is sprayed by a solder spraying device to the outside cylinder 4 and the honeycomb body 1 which are then subjected to vacuum brazing treatment.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively reduce UST defects by performing plural rolling passes by setting finish rolling speeds in a specific speed range and drafting a stock in the casting thickness direction by a shape ratio not less than a specific value for all the rolling passes. CONSTITUTION:A billet is subjected to width spread rolling in rough rolling stages and then is rolled to have a product thickness in finish rolling stages. In finish rolling stages, plural rolling passes are performed at a rolling speed in 200-350mm/sec and the billet is drafted in the thickness direction by a rolling shape ratio M (roll projected contact length/average sheet thickness between roll gap) of >=0.5 for all the passes. An equivalent diameter of a center porosity and a billet thickness before rolling are denoted by d0 and h0, respectively; the d0 is changed to an equivalent diameter dk after K passes and delta shows a pressure welding progressing degree by plastic deformation of the stock. Progressing degrees are proportional to drafting capability of a rolling roll and plastic deformation progresses with a contacting time of a rolled stock with a roll, so that low speed rolling is effective in this method. Hence, UST defects in the steel are sheet effectively reduced by a combination of the low speed rolling with large drafting rolling and a very thick steel plate are easily manufactured.
