    • The known sun tracker system with helical groove guide that works according to the gravity force principle is not operational without the daily intervention of an operator, limits the weight of the solar collectors, given the muscular strength required, and thirdly makes the tracking speed dependent from the ambient temperatures, because of the temperature-dependent viscosity of the driving liquid. The disclosed tracker system has a vertical pipe, a sleeve provided with a helical groove, a guiding element, a power block that carries most of the weight of the solar assembly and rotary mast, a hydraulic energy accumulator linked by a control valve to a regulating cylinder, so that the system can be operated several days independently of outer energy sources, and a thermo- throttle that allows the rotary mast to turn at a tracking speed independent from the ambient temperature. This sun tracker system is very robust, has a relatively low energy consumption even in heavy solar assemblies and is very suitable for large-scale applications.

    • A method and system for compressing and decompressing read only data in records that have a fixed size. A plurality of records are divided into segments having a predetermined size. For each segment, the records are arranged in a table with rows for each record and a column for each field in each record. The width of each column of repeated data is compressed to zero bits and the repeated data is referenced in a header of the segment. The width of each column of integer data is compressed to the minimum number of bits required to represent the largest integer value in the fields of the column. Floating point data in each column is converted to integer data and the width of the each column with converted integer data is set to the minimum width necessary to represent the largest converted integer in each column. The conversion to integer data is calculated for floating point and real numbers with a minimum precision exponent that is stored in the header for the segment. Floating point data is cleaned when it is converted to integer data. The information in the header is employed to decompress the compressed records in the segment. The decompression lends itself well to fast random access of secondary storage devices.

    • This electrical resolver has an arcuate stator with a concave inner side concentric to a convex side of an angularly rotatable arcuate rotor limited to rotation within outer ends of the stator. The stator and rotor have arcuate magnetic cores with transverse slots in which are embedded windings made of insulated wire. Rotation of the rotor causes changes in voltages induced in the stator windings corresponding to the extent of angular position of the rotor. The stator windings include trimming coils which generate bucking voltages to reduce errors in determining angular position of the rotor. In an operating range of .+-.10.degree. from a centered position, magnitudes of rotor position can be determined with an accuracy of 5-10 arc seconds maximum, with a considerable savings in space, weight, cost, simplified installation, and increased stability over the operating temperature range.
