The control device determines a knock when the following relationship is established: ((variation of first filter value of peak hold value)>(1-filter coefficient)/(1+filter coefficient)×(predetermined value larger than the maximum value of variation of the peak hold value when no knock is generated)).

The knock signal normalization means 17 calculates base statistics based on a last value and a current value of the knock signal, respectively and normalizes the knock signal using a base statistic interpolated according to an operating state. Furthermore, tracking of filter processing in calculating a base statistic based on a last value of a knock signal is accelerated than tracking of filter processing in calculating a base statistic based on a current value of the knock signal.
