    • A method and apparatus for acoustically enhanced particle separation uses a chamber through which flows a fluid containing particles to be separated. A porous medium is disposed within the chamber. A transducer mounted on one wall of the chamber is powered to impose on the porous medium an acoustic field that is resonant to the chamber when filled with the fluid. Under the influence of the resonant acoustic field, the porous medium is able to trap particles substantially smaller than the average pore size of the medium. When the acoustic field is deactivated, the flowing fluid flushes the trapped particles from the porous medium and regenerates the medium. A collection circuit for harvesting the particles flushed from the porous medium is disclosed. Aluminum mesh, polyester foam, and unconsolidated glass beads are disclosed as porous media.

    • A periodic training signal is transmitted over a communications channel from a transmitter to a receiver. At the receiver, a spectrum estimation module is used to measure the spectrum of a set of uncorrected samples of the periodic training signal. The spectrum estimate is available at a discrete frequency spacing of an integer fraction (L>1) of the frequency spacing of the set of samples of the periodic training signal. A timing offset estimation module is then used to measure the ppm offset between the local and remote crystals. The timing offset estimation module runs in parallel with the spectrum estimation module. The spectrum estimate is convolved with the DFT of a periodic ramp function and the result squared to product an error spectrum. The error spectrum represents the error induced by differences between timing in the transmitter and receiver clock. The error spectrum is subtracted from the estimated spectrum to produce a corrected spectrum. The corrected spectrum may be used to generate an SNR spectrum to characterize the communications channel.

    • A token has an antenna and a short-range RF receiver to receive wireless receive bursts comprising receive protocol overhead and transaction credentials. A parsing circuit selects a subset of the transaction credentials including a duration of an associated transaction. A credentials memory holds at least the subset of the transaction credentials for the duration of the transaction. A display and/or short-range RF transmitter notifies a transaction notification indicative of the subset of the transaction credentials held in the credentials memory. The short-range RF transmitter transmits wireless transmit bursts in a burst data length shorter than a burst data length of the receive bursts. The wireless receive bursts can have control data and the parsing circuit selects the subset based on instructions in the control data. A display on a vehicle can render the subset of the transaction credentials for the duration of the associated transaction.

    • A method for increasing performance of non-relational databases with reduction in view index sizes is provided. One or more user views are provided in addition to the master view having all hierarchical/categorized data. User views are created having a subset of this hierarchical/categorized data that significantly reduces index size and improves performance. The indexes of the user view are associated with the indexes of the master view. This method improves view caching by dividing view cache into partitions based on the types of view, each with different priorities and management techniques. The master view may have a higher priority and may be used by servers while the user view may have lower priorities and may be used by users and client applications. In this way, legacy non-relational databases may continue to be suitably maintained with acceptable performance and avoiding potential cost and risk of migrating to a relational database.

    • Techniques and tool for selecting compilation parameter values for compiling a first description of a circuit design, such as a register transfer language description, into a second description of the circuit design, such as a model description for implementation with an emulator are provided. According to various examples of the invention, a compilation tool “elaborates” the first description of the circuit design into a third description for the circuit design. Typically, the third description or “elaboration” will cross one or more hierarchical boundaries represented in the first description of the circuit design, so that the elaboration will represent at least a portion of two or more hierarchical modules in the first description design according to a non-hierarchical or “flat” manner. Also, with some implementations of the invention, the elaboration may include only a simple representation of a corresponding portion of the circuit design.
