    • A thermal transfer printing sheet comprising a substrate having a coating comprising an azo dye of the formula:A--N.dbd.N--B--N.dbd.N--E Iwherein:A is the residue of a diazotisable phenylamine or naphthylamine, A-NH.sub.2, carrying not more than one unsaturated electron-withrawing group;B is an optionally substituted thiophen-2,5-ylene or thiazol-2,5-ylene group;and E is the residue of an aromatic coupling component having agroup displaceable by a diazotized aromatic amine, suitable use in a thermal transfer printing process of the type in which the transfer sheet is placed in contact with a material to be printed and selectively heated in accordance with a pattern information signal whereby dye from the selectively heated regions of the transfer sheet is transferred to the material to be printed and forms a pattern thereon the shape and density of which is in accordance with the pattern and intensity of heat applied to the transfer sheet.
