    • Electronic binoculars comprise an imaging unit, and first and second ocular units. The imaging unit has an imaging device that projects an optical image of an object, and converts the optical image to electric signals. The first ocular unit has a first image-indicating device that indicates the object image based on the electric signals in a first image-indicating field. The second ocular unit has a second image-indicating device that indicates the object image based on the electric signals in a second image-indicating field. The first image-indicating field is smaller than a first effective image-indicating area which is the maximum image-indicating area of the first image-indicating device. The second image-indicating field is smaller than a second effective image-indicating area which is the maximum image-indicating area of the second image-indicating device. The respective first and second image-indicating fields can move within the respective first and second effective image-indicating areas.

    • Electronic binoculars comprise an imaging unit, an image-signal processing unit, and first and second ocular units. First and second optical images, obtained by the optical system, are converted to first and second electric signals, due to imaging operations of the first and second imaging devices. The imaging operations of the first and second imaging devices are simultaneously started, and ended at different times. The image-signal processing unit superimposes the first and second electric signals to generate a third electric signal. The first and second ocular units indicate object images based on the third electric signal.

    • A disk storage device, such as a magnetic disk storage device, for reading data from and writing data to a magnetic data storage disk includes a spindle onto a base for rotating the magnetic storage disk and a read/write head for reading data from and writing data to the magnetic storage disk. The read/write head is supported on a carriage which is movably mounted on the base for radially moving with respect to the spindle. A support plate is mounted on the carriage for retractably supporting the read/write head. An actuator mechanism actuates the support plate to move the read/write head between a nonretractable, operative position and a retracted, inoperative position. When the disk is not accessed by the read/write head, the read/write head is held in the retracted, inoperative position. Therefore, when the disk is replaced with another disk, the read/write head is prevented from being damaged or smeared with dust or dirt by contact with the disk.
