    • PURPOSE:To measure the concentration of NOX continuously and quickly with high accuracy, by vaporizing solid paraformaldehyde to formaldehyde in a pretreatment stage and hereafter, said formaldehyde is mixed with NOX containing gas such as combustion waste gas and measuring the intensity of a visible and ultraviolet absorption spectrum of NO2 after converting all NO to NO2 by oxidation. CONSTITUTION:A part of combustion waste gas sent out a combustion machinery 1 is passed through a flow passage 2a to enter a mixer 3. Carrier gas is sent from a bomb 4 to a vessel 5 filled with paraformaldehyde through a flow passage 2b and the vaporization of paraformaldehyde is carried out in the vessel 5. Hereafter, the obtained formaldehyde is entered a mixer 3 through a flow passage 2c and is entered a reactor 6 through a flow passage 2d after mixed with the combustion waste gas. When all NOX is converted into NO2 in the reactor 6, NO2 containing gas is entered a flow cell for gas 7 of a measuring instrument through a flow passage 2e. Glass windows are provided to both ends of the cell 7 and a light 9 emitted from a light source 8 is passed through the cell 7 to separate into its spectral components as visible and ultraviolet rays by a filter 10. The concentration of the NO2 is measured as absorbance continuously by introducing said rays into a photomultiplier 11.
