摘要： A fixing apparatus includes: a fixing roller and a pressure roller which transport a recording paper while sandwiching the recording paper P therebetween so that an unfixed toner image formed on the recording paper is fixed thereon under heat and pressure; two support rollers; an endless belt which is set over the support rollers and comes into contact with a surface of the fixing roller; and heater lamps which are provided respectively inside the support rollers. A fixing apparatus satisfies a relationship indicated by (C2+C3)/C1≧2 where C1 is a heat capacity of each of the heater lamps, C2 is a heat capacity of each of the support rollers, and C3 is a heat capacity of the endless belt in each of areas where the endless belt is in contact with the support rollers. This realizes an external belt heat fixing apparatus which suppresses (a) heat damage to the endless belt and the surface of the fixing member and (b) unevenness of an image.

摘要： Support rollers suspending an endless belt are arranged so that a distance between each support roller and a fixing roller is smaller than a height of a belt regulating member provided on each side of the support roller in moving the support rollers to the second position which allows the endless belt to be in contact with the fixing roller so that a contact area therebetween is smaller than in the first position. As a result, in a fixing apparatus which includes the regulating member for regulating a position of an external heating belt in a rotational axis direction so that a contact area size between the external heating belt and the fixing member is variable, it is possible to appropriately vary the contact area between the belt and the fixing material.

摘要： The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus that enables the occurrence of print defects due to a first print start time delay to be eliminated without using a temperature sensor that has a small thermal time constant. When the temperature of a fixing belt serving as an image heating body is greater than or equal to a predetermined temperature following the elapse of a fixed time after an image forming operation is started, recording paper is transported to a nip area (fixing area) of a fixing apparatus before the temperature detected by a temperature sensor reaches a predetermined image fixing temperature, and an image forming operation is started immediately.

In an image forming apparatus, a fixing fluid is applied to a toner image on an intermediary transfer belt by a coating roller, and the toner image in a swollen/softened state is fixed onto a recording medium. By a second seal member composed of a film-shaped member and a supporting member, a gap between the coating roller and a fixing fluid chamber which has the opening and places the coating roller therein is closed to avoid leakage of the fixing fluid.
