    • An optical apparatus is disclosed, with which focus detection areas of different size and/or position can be stored. The optical apparatus includes a first operating member which is operated changing at least one of a size and a position of a focus detection area, a memory storing a plurality of focus detection areas which differ from each other in at least one of size and position, a second operating member which is operated for setting one of the plurality of stored focus detection areas as a to-be-used focus detection area for detection of the focus state of an image-taking optical system. The apparatus further includes a controller performing storage and setting processes of the focus detection areas and a focusing control of the image-taking optical system.

    • An optical apparatus which can be focused on an object included at an arbitrary position in an image-taking area with simple operations, is disclosed. The optical apparatus according to the present invention comprises a focusing state calculating circuit which derives information indicating a focusing state of an optical system based on an output signal from an image-pickup area which corresponds to part of an image-pickup device, and a storage circuit which stores the position of the image-pickup area in the image-pickup device. The optical apparatus also comprises a setting system which moves the image-pickup area, stores the position of the image-pickup area in the storage circuit, and sets an image-pickup area which has been stored in the storage circuit as the image-pickup area in performing focus adjustment control.

    • A printing apparatus includes a first plate cylinder and a second plate cylinder. Each plate cylinder supports a plate mounted peripherally thereof having two image areas. Four ink feeders contact and feed inks to the image areas on the plate when mounted on the first and second plate cylinders. A first blanket cylinder has a diameter equal to a diameter of the first plate cylinder and is contactable therewith. A second blanket cylinder has a diameter equal to a diameter of the second plate cylinder and is contactable therewith. An impression cylinder having a diameter half the diameter of either the first and second plate cylinders as well as the first and second blanket cylinders, is contactable with the first and second blanket cylinders. A pair of grippers that each hold an end of the printing paper maintain two sheets of printing paper peripherally of the impression cylinder. A paper feed cylinder feeds the printing paper to the impression cylinder. A paper discharge cylinder discharges the printing paper from the impression cylinder after a required printing process. A gripper control mechanism controls the grippers to selectively carry out either one of a first opening and closing operation once for every rotation of the impression cylinder and a second opening and closing operation once for every two rotations of the impression cylinder.
