    • A mixing apparatus for mixing two or more materials, includes a separating plate Upstream of a mixing zone having a plurality of vortex generators attached to the plate to create large scale longitudinal vortices in the materials as they pass the plate for rapid, controlled mixing in a short longitudinal distance. The vortex generators are arranged in a row transverse to the flow direction of the materials. The vortex generators each comprise three triangular-shaped surfaces joined to form a three sided wedge having a top surface and opposite sides surfaces that project into the flow path. The side surfaces are joined at an acute angle. The top surface is oriented at an angle to the plate. The angles may be adjusted for the type of materials to be mixed.

    • A method is provided for fuel injection in a sequential combustion system comprising a first combustion chamber and downstream thereof a second combustion chamber, in between which at least one vortex generator is located, as well as a premixing chamber having a longitudinal axis downstream of the vortex generator, and a fuel lance having a vertical portion and a horizontal portion, being located within said premixing chamber. The fuel injected is an MBtu-fuel. In said premixing chamber the fuel and a gas contained in an oxidizing stream coming from the first combustion chamber are premixed to a combustible mixture. The fuel is injected in such a way that the residence time of the fuel in the premixing chamber is reduced in comparison with a radial injection of the fuel from the horizontal portion of the fuel lance.

    • A burner (1) for a combustion chamber of a gas turbine, especially in a power plant, includes an oxidator feed device (10) for feeding a gaseous oxidator into a mixer chamber (3) of the burner (1), a gaseous fuel feed device (11) for feeding a gaseous fuel into the mixer chamber (3), and a liquid fuel feed device (12) for feeding a liquid fuel into the mixer chamber (3). In order to improve the operation of the burner (1) with liquid fuel, the liquid fuel feed device (12) has a main feed line (13) which feeds liquid fuel to a plurality of injection orifices (14). Some of these injection orifices (14), with regard to a main outflow direction (9) of the burner (1), which has an oxidator-fuel mixture, which flows from the mixer chamber (3), at an outlet opening (5) of the mixer chamber (3), are arranged in series. Some or all of these injection orifices (14) are designed so that a main injection direction (15) of the respective injection orifice (14) has a radial component which extends radially to the main outflow direction (9).
