    • An actuator used with an optical pickup includes: a base on which a holder is fixed; a lens holder in which a plurality of installation holes are formed such that a plurality of objective lenses to record and/or reproduce optical discs having different recording densities are installed at different heights; a support member, which movably supports the lens holder, having one end coupled to the lens holder and the other end coupled to the holder; and a magnetic circuit which drives the lens holder in focusing and tracking directions. The plurality of installation holes include a first installation hole in which a first objective lens for at least one type of low density optical disc is installed, and a second installation hole in which a second objective lens for a higher density optical disc than the low density optical disc is installed. When a working distance of the first objective lens for the low density optical disc installed in the first installation hole is represented as WD1, and a working distance of the second objective lens for the high density optical disc installed in the second installation hole is represented as WD2, the first and second installation holes are provided so that the first and second objective lenses are installed to satisfy the Equation: WD1≧WD2, a separation distance between the optical disc and the second objective lens=WD2+α where, α=|WD1−WD2|×(0.1˜1.0). The second installation hole is located in a more outer circumference of the optical disc than the first installation hole.

    • An optical pickup and an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus adopting the same are provided. The optical pickup includes an optical unit, first and second objective lenses, and an optical path switching unit. The optical unit illuminates light onto an information storage medium and receives light reflected from the information storage medium to detect an information signal and/or an error signal. The first and the second objective lenses focus incident light to form a light spot on an information storage surface of the information storage medium. The optical path switching unit selectively directs the light incident from the optical unit to one of the first and second objective lenses. In the optical pickup, since the light quantity directed to a plurality of objective lenses may be maximized, optical efficiency is increased and thus high-speed operation may be attained.

The magnetic circuit is divided into a first magnetic circuit to drive the objective lenses in the focusing direction, and a second magnetic circuit to drive the objective lenses in the tracking direction, thereby reducing the weight of a moving portion.

    • A pickup actuator capable of significantly reducing rolling of the area, including: a pickup base, a lens holder having an objective lens mounted thereon, and lens holder driving means for driving the lens holder in directions for focusing and tracking on the pickup base. The lens holder driving means includes at least one magnet, a yoke for concentrating the magnetic flux of the magnet in the direction of the magnetic flux, and a driving coil having a focusing coil and a pair of tracking coils positioned between the magnet and the yoke. The respective widths of the magnet and the yoke are set at a rate of 1:0.8-1.2. Accordingly, the uniform magnetic flux area of the magnetic flux can be widely distributed in the width's direction of the yoke. Further, the magnet is attached to one side of one yoke while being slightly lowered thereon, so that the center of the magnetic flux of the magnet is downwardly moved from its initial position to a distance corresponding to 4-12% of the height of the magnet, and the center line of the magnetic flux of the magnet and the center line of the focusing coil are aligned with each other, exactly. Further, the width of the magnet and the gap between the pair of tracking coils are set at a rate of 1:0.6-0.9.
