摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a large current loop and reduce unwanted radiation by arranging voltage supply terminals to two linear electrodes in the row direction comprising arbitrary display units on the same side of the other substrate. SOLUTION: Wiring for supplying discharge maintaining current is only on the left side of a plasma display panel 301. In the case of a current (a) in one direction, the current generated from the positive side of a capacitor 305 passes through an X-side scanned wiring 303 and is made to flow through the plasma display panel from the left to the right. The current coming out of the plasma display panel 301 passes through a Y-side scanned wiring and is made to flow through the plasma display panel from the right to the left and reaches the negative side of the capacitor 305 which is the discharge maintaining power source. The same with a current in the reverse direction, and there is neither current generated to cross the plasma display panel 301, nor current generated to cross a driving circuit substrate 302.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a color noise generated by a dither or an error diffusion processing and staining of a black level neighborhood generated by white balance adjustment by replacing a combination of levels of input video signals R, G and B with a representative vector structured by the combination of the levels of predetermined R, G and B. SOLUTION: A detection circuit 2 calculates a luminance level from input signals VG, VR and VB, detects an area where this luminance level is below a specified value and outputs a decision signal QSW. A quantization circuit 1 has signals of lower-order 2 bits of input signals VG, VR and VB inputted respectively and converts into a combination of luminance levels in which a color noise is difficult to generate. Switch circuits 3a to 3c can reduce the color noise which is conspicuous by a black neighborhood luminance by selecting signals QG, QR and QB converted by the quantization circuit 1. Also, it is possible to express a correct gradation and hue.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high-quality display device by lowering emission ratios of other colors while noticing a color whose luminance is required to be raised most in order to achieve emission ratios to avoid the lack of the number of gradations in adjusting a white balance. SOLUTION: Coating film thicknesses of phosphors 104, 105 of R, G of a plasma display panel are made to be thinner as compared with the coating film thickness of the phosphor 106 of B of the panel. An emission luminance becomes smaller by making the film thickness of a phosphor to be coated thinner and, conversely, an emission luminance becomes larger by making the film thickness of a phosphor to be coated thicker. Consequently, emission efficiency of R, G are lowered by making film thicknesses of phosphors 104, 105 of R, G thinner as compared with the film thickness of the phosphor 106 of B to realize a desired white balance. The restriction of signal amplitudes for performing the white balance is made to be smaller by making white balance characteristics in the single body of a panel roughly even in this manner. Thus, the using of the number of gradations capable of being expressed by subfields is maximized and a picture degradation due to the lack of the number of gradations can be reduced.

A waveform 14 shows the timing of discharge. In this case, a selecting reset pulse is set to be a higher voltage than a discharge start voltage. By counting the number of times of discharges except a write discharge 60 and an erasure discharge 61 in all cells in the first subfield as the multilevel display of a selected cell in each subfield and making them multiples of a factorial of two, a linear luminance change from a zeroth level, i.e., a black level to 255th level is obtained.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the deterioration of image quality caused by pseudo contour noise in the gradation display using subfield system. SOLUTION: An input video signal x is transformed in level and a subfield is set so that specified weighting is made in accordance with each bit of the transformed output. When gradation is displayed by the light emission display of each pixel suing such subfield, two non-linear transformation functions, fA(x) and fB(x), are set for the above level transformation. By using such functions alternately for each pixel of the video signal x, levels are transformed with non-linear transformation functions mutually different between pixels adjoining each other in the three dimensional time space. Conditions required for three functions are that when the average of these is equal to the level of the video signal x and one of them varies in compliance with the level of the video signal x, the other is at the maximum or minimum level.

In that case, when the light waveguide passages are used, an increase in a depth of the whole display device is sufficiently restrained. Since the image screen size is reduced, brightness is also increased. When a combination of the respective light waveguide passages and the respective picture elements 3 is already known, a wave length characteristic can be optimized as a display color of the picture elements, and a color reproducing range of the display device can be expanded in a color space on which both aspects of a chromaticity aspect and the brightness direction are considered.

CONSTITUTION: This plasma display has a common row X electrode 16 and independent row Y electrode 17 which are two electrodes to execute the light emission display discharge and an address A electrode and trigger T electrode which are two electrodes to execute the writing discharge. Fixing pulses of high potential are impressed on the independent row Y electrode 17 before the start of the writing discharge until just before the impression of the maintenance pulses to execute the light emission display discharge. The pulses impressed on the two electrodes to execute the writing discharge form the same phase and opposite polarities.

CONSTITUTION: The wall surface of a hole 3a of a spacer (bulkhead plate) 3 to constitute a displaying discharge space 9 is inclined, and the hole area on the viewing side is made leager than the opposite side, and the rate of opening is enlarged. To the two surfaces of the part which is free from hole 3a, an electrode 4 for displaying discharge is attached by means of plating, evaporation, etc. Also the phosphor 12 is applied to the wall surface of the hole 3a for enlargement of the area where phosphor is applied. Further an aux. discharge space 10 is furnished in such a fashion that it is not visible from the viewing side substantially.
