A signal modifier (20) modifies the input signal or the surround channel signal on the basis of said detection to damp voice portions in the surround channel signal, whilst voice portions of this type are damped to a lesser degree in the direct channel signal or are not damped at all. A loudspeaker signal output system (22) projects the direct channel signals and the surround channel signals onto loudspeaker signals that are associated with a defined reproduction system, such as a 5.1 system.
