    • An exposure count indicator has a scale of successive exposure count indicia for visually indicating which film frame is positioned for exposure in a camera, and a confirmation indicator separate from the exposure count indicia for providing a visual confirmation indication that a first available frame is positioned for exposure in the camera. A pointer is supported to move from pointing to a pre-initialization one of the exposure count indicia for visually indicating that the first available frame has not been positioned for exposure in the camera to pointing to a successive one of the exposure count indicia for visually indicating that the first available frame is positioned for exposure. The confirmation indicator is capable of modifying light transmitted through it to prevent objects behind it from being clearly seen, and is fixed adjacent the pre-initialization one of the exposure count indicia to cover the pointer when the pointer points to the pre-initialization one of the exposure count indicia, in order that the pointer cannot be clearly seen, but not to cover the pointer when the pointer points to the successive one of the exposure count indicia, in order that the pointer can at least be partially clearly seen. Thus, the changeover from the pointer not being clearly seen to being at least partially clearly seen provides the visual confirmation.

A return spring is arranged to rotate one sprocket wheel relative to the other sprocket wheel to decrease the pitch of the two teeth in the respective pairs of teeth substantially to the pitch of the film perforations.

    • A three roller film winder and method for loading photographic film. In the method, a film cartridge is positioned in a cartridge chamber of a camera frame assembly. The camera frame assembly has the cartridge chamber, a supply chamber, and an intermediate section between the chambers. The film cartridge includes a spool and a filmstrip. The filmstrip has leading, main, and tail portions. A sleeve is introduced into the supply chamber. An upper roller is disposed over the sleeve. A pair of lower rollers are introduced into the supply chamber. The upper and lower rollers together define a substantially cylindrical scroll space. The leading portion of the filmstrip is advanced out of the cartridge and into the sleeve. The leading portion is curled within the sleeve and scroll space into an initial filmstrip scroll having at least one turn. The sleeve is retracted after the curling step. The main portion of the filmstrip is propelled between the upper and lower rollers to wind the main portion over the initial scroll. During the propelling, the spatial separation of the lower rollers from the upper roller is increased. This increases the diameter of the scroll space. The rollers are removed and the camera frame assembly is light-tightly closed.

    • A battery especially useful in single use cameras has the insulative layer or wrapping removed therefrom to expose the metal jacket of the battery which functions as the positive terminal of the battery. The battery is then slid longitudinally into a cylindrical cavity in the camera to axially engage a first contact with the negative terminal of the battery and to be engaged radially by a second contact which contacts the metal jacket. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the metal jacket is contacted at a point between a groove in the jacket and a second end face of the battery which is unitary with the metal jacket. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the second contact has a spring arm with an edge which engages a wall of the groove so as to prevent removal of the battery by the customer. A special battery extracting tool is provided at film developing centers for dislodging the second contact from the groove and pulling the battery from the cylindrical recess in the camera.
