    • A method for making an article comprising the steps of i) providing a polymer substrate of an amorphous, non-crystallizable polymer; ii) contacting a selected surface region of the polymer substrate with a swelling agent, the swelling agent having a high solubility limit for the polymer substrate, whereby a surface part of the polymer substrate is swollen and a part underneath the surface of the polymer substrate is non-swollen; iii) contacting the polymer substrate of step (ii), wherein a part of the surface of the polymer substrate is swollen, with a coagulating agent, the coagulating agent a low solubility limit for the polymer and being miscible with the swelling agent, whereby the swollen part of the polymer is precipitated back onto the non-swollen part of the polymer substrate, whereby an article having a structured surface is obtained; an article prepared by the method mentioned before and the use of the article in indoor applications selected from furniture, household appliances, computer peripherals, clothing apparel, filters and membranes and outdoor applications selected from cooling equipment, drainage pipes and technical textiles.

    • The present invention discloses a method for adjusting the transmission time of a continuous wave (CW) and a reader for implementing the method. The method comprises: setting an initial value for a response waiting time; sending the CW to a tag after having sent out a command to the tag and waiting for a response from the tag; judging whether the response from the tag is received within the response waiting time, if the response from the tag is received within the response waiting time, then stopping sending the CW and adjusting the response waiting time, and if the response from the tag is still not received beyond the response waiting time, then stopping sending the CW. In the present invention, the time for a reader to wait for a response from the tag is far less than 20 ms, therefore, a command failure can be found early, so as to improve the processing efficiency of an RFID system.

    • A nasal device ( 10 - 16 ) for obesity prevention and treatment and its method of use are disclosed. The device comprises a check valve ( 20 , 20' ) and a cylindrical or conical airtight tube ( 30 , 32' , 33 , 34 , 34' / 36' ) with an opening at each end. The valve is so fastened or connected to the tube at one end as to form a one-way air channel/passage. The tube conforms to or fits the interiors of different nostrils air-tightly in a variety of ways ( 32' , 34 , 38 , 40 , 34' , 40' , 46 ). A pair of such devices can be connected with a flexible strip ( 42 ) or a band ( 44 ). Inserting the device into the nostril, a wearer can inhale through the nose but has to exhale through the mouth. This reduces the wearer's appetite for food and slows down eating. The wearer can easily remove the device after eating or whenever desired.
