    • An odometer monitor for monitoring the connectivity status of a mobile data terminal to a vehicle is a software module defined in a data processor of a vehicle tracking device. The monitor is operable to listen for arrival of successive timed poll events from a mobile data terminal connected to a vehicle, listen for arrival of and storing each of successive odometer update values from a vehicle information bus of the vehicle that corresponds to arrival of each of the successive timed poll events, compare next odometer update values to last stored odometer update values, calculate the distances between the compared odometer update values, make a determination of connectivity status of the mobile data terminal relative to the vehicle based on whether or not the values of the calculated distances ascend to above the value of a preset maximum distance, and report the connectivity status to the mobile data terminal.

    • A system for assessing fitness of drivers for trip assignments includes a data processor adapted to communicate with recorders in vehicles for retrieving driving histories of drivers, and a terminal connected with the data processor. The terminal is used by a dispatcher for operating the data processor to construct trip definitions of pending trip assignments, append each of the trip definitions separately to the driving history of each of the drivers so as to form driver/trip assignment combinations of all drivers and all pending trip assignments, process the combinations through an hours-of-service engine to determine which combinations are legal under hours-of-service work rules, calculate a fitness rating for each legal combination, and analyze the fitness ratings of the legal combinations against one another to select the driver with best fitness for each pending trip assignment.

    • The invention relates to a coupling for an exhaust system for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine. The coupling includes a female pipe, a male pipe, and a clamping collar to couple together the pipes. The coupling includes a post and slot connection having a pair of posts and a pair of slots between the clamping collar and the pipes for connecting the pipes. The clamping collar surrounds and slides along the female pipe and includes an annular cam presenting a pair of openings for sliding the clamping collar over the posts. The annular cam presents an axially facing cam surface having a slope increasing circumferentially from each of the openings for sliding frictional engagement with the posts.
