    • Systems, methods and apparatus for acquiring an image from within a body lumen are provided. Systems embodying features of the invention include an intracorporeal imaging component for acquiring imaging information, an image information recording component, and an image information playback component. Methods for acquiring image information from within a body lumen include steps of acquiring imaging information, storing image information, and playing back imaging information. Imaging information may be played back as acquired, or non-sequentially, or composite images may be formed by combining, filtering, enhancing, or subtracting images and the composite images displayed. Devices embodying features of the invention include optical imaging components such as an optical IGW, an optical imaging recording component, and an optical image playback component. The systems, methods and devices are suitable for use with angiopoplasty, stent delivery, and other intracorporeal clinical procedures.

    • An apparatus for measuring the temperature of a fluid flowing within a body comprising an elongated tube sized to be received within a vein or an artery and having a peripheral wall, at least one lumen extending longitudinally within the tube and an opening in the peripheral wall which extends from the lumen to the exterior of the tube. A thermistor is mounted in the lumen adjacent the opening by a thermistor mounting body. The thermistor mounting body cooperates with the tube to at least partially define a cavity at the opening which opens radially outwardly. The thermistor is partially in the mounting body and projects radially outwardly of the mounting body into the cavity so that the portion of the thermistor which projects into the cavity is in good heat transfer relationship to the fluid flowing within the body. The thermistor has a major axis and a minor axis, and the major axis is generally transverse to the direction of the flowing fluid. The tube has a body line, and the thermistor extends radially outwardly no farther than about the body line.

    • An apparatus for injecting a fluid into the heart and making temperature measurements within the pulmonary artery comprising an elongated flexible tube having a distal end portion, a temperature sensor mounted on the distal end portion, a peripheral wall, at least one lumen extending longitudinally within the tube and an injectate port opening in the peripheral wall proximally of the temperature sensor. The tube can be advanced through a vein, the right atrium and the right ventricle to place the distal end portion in the pulmonary artery and the injectate port in the right atrium facing generally toward the inferior vena cava. The temperature sensor is oriented on the distal end portion so as to materially reduce the likelihood that it will contact the wall of the pulmonary artery during use.

    • A controlled pressure inflation-deflation device inflates a balloon to occlude a blood vessel by moving a large plunger to provide incremental pressure increases within a syringe. A releasable latch moves a second plunger, positioned within a syringe formed by an inner columnar opening in the large plunger, between an occlusion position and a perfusion position. A three-position switch has a release position to allow the large plunger to move freely, an adjust position to provide the incremental pressure increases, and a lock position to lock the location of the plunger. Pressures at which various balloons (e.g., folded balloons) achieve or nearly achieve a substantially circular cross-section may be extrapolated by inflating balloons with pressures equal and/or greater than the first occlusion pressure. Balloons may be pre-inflated up to or below the first occlusion pressure to achieve a substantially circular cross-section, prior to increasing the balloon to an occlusion pressure.
