    • A power transmission has a housing comprised of an end support, a casing, an end cover, a converter housing, an input shaft, an output shaft and a pair of identically dimensional countershafts. A bushing and oil feed sleeve are positioned on each end of each countershaft for cooperating with the end support connecting the housing for alignment therebetween and with the casing for alignment therebetween. Each countershaft has a pair of ratio gears rotatably disposed thereon and meshing with respective output gears rotatable with the output shaft and a friction clutch is provided for each ratio gear. Four of the friction clutches which are disposed on the countershafts are identical in construction. A fifth clutch assembly, in line with the input shaft, can be shortened, if desired, by the elimination of one friction plate and one reaction plate. Each clutch has an apply piston which cooperates with respective lube passages formed in the shaft to control lubricant and cooling flow to each respective clutch during engagement. A reverse gear pair has one gear member connectible to one countershaft by a synchronizer clutch and one of the friction clutches and the other gear member drivingly connected with a ratio gear on the other countershaft. A park pawl secured to one of the reverse gear members is provided to obtain a park gear having a torque ratio greater than one with the output shaft thereby providing improved disengagement loading in the park system.

    • A multi-speed transmission is provided that includes three planetary gear sets and seven torque-transmitting mechanisms with various fixed interconnections to provide seven forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio. The first planetary gear set is a dual sun planetary and the torque-transmitting mechanism engagement schedule is designed so that, in the reverse speed ratio, a predetermined speed ratio is achieved at the second sun gear member in the dual sun planetary and the input member, and, in the first forward speed ratio, the same magnitude predetermined speed ratio is achieved between the second sun gear member and the input member, but with the second sun gear member rotating in an opposite direction as in the reverse speed ratio.

    • A hybrid electromechanical transmission includes first, second and third planetary gear sets, an input member, an output member, and first and second motor generators. At least one of the gear members in the first planetary gear set is connected to the first motor/generator. At least one of the gear members in the third planetary gear set is connected to the second motor/generator. First and second interconnecting members continuously connect members of the first planetary gear set with members of the second planetary gear set. Five torque-transmitting mechanisms selectively interconnect members of the planetary gear sets with a stationary member or with other members of the planetary gear sets. One of the five torque-transmitting mechanisms is operative to selectively disconnect the second planetary gear set from the third planetary gear set so that the second motor/generator may drive the output member while disconnected from the first motor/generator and the input member.
