    • The invention relates to an intervertebral implant (1), comprising an upper part (2) that has a support surface (5) for a vertebral body, and a lower pa rt (3) that has a support surface (13) for an adjacent vertebral body. Contact elements (20, 21, 22, 23) are positioned on said upper part and said lower part and can be accessed from one side of the implant respectively, with an handling instrument. The aim of the invention is to minimize the structural height of the intervertebral implant (1) for insertion into an intervertebra l space. To this end, the upper part (2) and the lower part (3) each have projections or recessed sections (9, 10, 16, 17, 19) which are oriented towards the other part and are laterally offset from each other in such a wa y that they engage in each other as the upper part (2) approaches the lower pa rt (3). The contact elements (20, 21, 22, 23) are arranged on the upper part (2 ) and on the lower part (3) in projections (10, 16, 17) of these parts respectively, and the contact elements (20, 21, 22, 23) of the upper part (2 ) and the lower part (3) lie adjacent to one another and at least partially overlap in the direction of the height of the intervertebral implant (1).

    • An intervertebral device 110 for insertion between two adjacent vertebrae, comprising an upper part 120 having an upper surface 121 for engaging an upper vertebrae and a lower surface 131 having a convex portion, a lower part 130 having a lower surface 131 for engaging adjacent, lower vertebrae and an upper surface 121 having a convex portion, and a core element 140 having an upper concave portion to operatively engage with the convex portion of the upper part 120 and a lower concave portion to operatively engage with the convex portion of the lower part 130, wherein the upper and lower parts 120 130 each have a groove 128 138 located adjacent to and surrounding their respective convex portions, the groove having a groove floor surface 129c 139c adjacent the convex portion 125 135 and a groove side wall surface 129d 139d located radially more distant from the convex portion 125 135 than the groove floor surface 129c 139c and that extends from the groove floor surface toward the opposing part, wherein the core element 140 comprises an upper surface 121 surrounding the upper concave portion, the upper surface 121 terminating in a circumferential surface, and further comprises a lower surface 131 surrounding the lower concave portion, the lower surface 131 terminating in a circumferential surface, and wherein the groove side wall surface 129d 139d of the upper and lower parts 120 130 is constructed such that upon bringing the upper and lower parts 120 130 together at an edge of the intervertebral device 110 the terminal circumferential surface of the core element 140 engages the groove side wall surface.
