    • A method for coordinating access to a storage volume between several hosts, each of which has an associated log, may involve: one of the hosts requesting permission from a coordinator to perform a write to a region of the storage volume; the host storing write data for the write to an associated log; and the coordinator sending a response granting permission to perform the write to the host, where the response indicates whether an old version of data in the region of the storage volume should be relocated to a COW (Copy On Write) snapshot volume. The host may signal completion of the write to an application that initiated the write prior to performing the write to the region of the storage volume and subsequent to both storing the write data to the associated log and receiving the response from the coordinator.

    • A method involves: detecting a storage resource indication within a workflow request and, in response to the storage resource indication, generating an availability indication. The storage resource indication indicates a storage resource (e.g., by directly or indirectly identifying or selecting the storage resource). The availability indication indicates that the indicated storage resource is not available for subsequent workflow requests. The availability indication is generated prior to allowing the consumer that generated the workflow request to use the storage resource. The workflow request can include a request to allocate a logical storage structure (e.g., a volume or logical disk). The logical storage structure is allocated in response to the workflow request. If the workflow request is denied or expires, the logical storage structure is deleted.

    • In distributed storage environments, nodes may send replicated writes for temporal volumes and may be configured to request on-demand consistency intervals in order to allow multiple nodes to transition between timestamps for temporal data in a uniform and coordinated manner. In response to a request from a node for a consistency interval transition, a consistency interval coordinator may end a current consistency interval and start another and may provide coordination to various nodes to enable the nodes to transition from one timestamp to another, and thus from one temporal version to another, while prevent data corruption or inconsistency between the temporal versions. Additionally, periodic consistency intervals may be utilized to provide consistent and coordinated transitions between temporal timestamps. In some embodiments, replicated writes including temporal timestamp information may be stored persistent spillover logs allowing offline updating and versioning of data to temporal volumes.

    • Various systems and methods for performing coordinated distributed write logging are provided. A method may involve one of several hosts, each of which has an associated log, requesting permission to perform a write to data in a storage volume from a coordinator. The coordinator coordinates access to the storage volume between the hosts. Prior to receipt of a response from the coordinator granting permission to perform the write to the storage volume, the host may initiate logging the write data for the write to a respective log. The host may signal completion of the write to an application that initiated the write in response to both logging the write data to the respective log and receiving the response from the coordinator. The host may perform one or more underlying block operations to update the storage volume according to the write subsequent to signaling completion of the write to the application that initiated the write.
