    • An image processor and an image processing method are provided which can suppress both a bronzing phenomenon and a color rolling in an inkjet printing apparatus and produce high-quality monochrome pictures. To that end, a monochrome image is processed by generating the multivalued density data for a chromatic ink having a hue component opposite that of the achromatic ink in a low to medium density region and, in a high density region, generating the multivalued density data for a chromatic ink having a reflection light with a hue component opposite that of a reflection light of the achromatic ink. With this arrangement, a high-quality monochrome image can be produced which has hardly noticeable hue deviations and bronzing phenomenon in the entire density grayscale or density range.

For achieving this object, the present invention includes a treatment liquid ejection data generating unit configured to generate the treatment liquid ejection data for ejecting the treatment liquid from the print head to the unit area before the formation of the image by the ink starts. The treatment liquid ejection data generating unit generates the treatment liquid ejection data in such a manner as to eject the treatment liquid at the plural times of the scans of the print head.

    • In an ink jet printer in which preliminary ejection is performed onto printing paper, unnecessary ink consumption due to the preliminary ejection is suppressed. More specifically, the paper preliminary ejection is designed to be performed only for a printing head of cyan ink. For this cyan ink the longest duration of its non-ejection state, in which the printer can attain high printing quality when restarting printing after continuation of the non-ejection state in the case of not performing the paper preliminary ejection, is shorter than 1.6 seconds of the duration which is necessary for the reciprocal printing. This eliminates the paper preliminary ejection for the printing heads of the other colors of ink, thereby avoiding unnecessary ink consumption due to the paper preliminary ejection performed uniformly for every color of ink.
