    • Automatic heating controls for heating of glass sheets and methods utilizing such controls are provided so that area temperatures approach plus or minus 1 degree Fahrenheit of area desired temperatures, in a steady state operation through a furnace having heaters. Area temperatures and area desired temperatures are combined to obtain area temperature errors. The area temperature errors, area setpoint temperatures, and a comparison of adjacent area temperatures and/or area setpoint temperatures are then applied to integral-only feedback control so as to provide area furnace system demand. For thick glass (i.e., greater than approximately 3mm thickness) core temperatures are included to obtain temperature errors. Then, area furnace system demand is utilized to adjust the heat output of the heaters, the speed of the transport system, or both. Following a gap in the flow of glass sheets, the area temperatures are returned to steady state operation within 10 minutes.

    • A spandrel panel is provided which has at least one low visible light transmittance pane having a composition such that the low visible light transmittance pane exhibits, when measured utilizing Illuminant D65, a visible light transmittance (Tvis) of 15% or less. In the past, spandrel panels were typically constructed with a film or coating, for example a frit, disposed on at least one surface of one of the panes or with a sheet of opaque material positioned within or next to the spandrel panel. In the present invention, obtaining low visible light transmittance through the spandrel panel is achieved via the chemical composition of at least one of the panes. This results in a lower cost spandrel panel.

    • A vehicle slider assembly has a fixed panel (10, 11), with a window opening (13) defined therein. The panel has multiple drain holes (48a, 48b, 48c) that remove moisture inside a vehicle, at the window opening. The holes are located where adhesive (44a, 44b) between a lower track (16) and a frame (14) or between the track (16) and a glass surface (20') has not been applied. Alternately, holes (52a, 52b, 52c) may be formed in the lower track (16) to drain the moisture down an area of the glass surface or drain down an area of the frame member that is below the adhesive, which bonds the lower track to the glass panel /frame member. Further, the moisture may be drained through a hole in the frame member. Open cell foam, (62a, 62e) which may extend above the interior entrance of the holes, may be disposed in the holes to assist in draining moisture to the vehicle exterior while reducing noise from entering the vehicle.

    • The present invention relates to a rain sensor that adaptively functions in a variety of different modes when deployed on vehicle windows of different thicknesses and compositions. The arrangement of multiple lens segments and reflecting surfaces in a nonsequential configuration allows utilization of a greater proportion of light rays from the at least two emitters. Further, a greater portion of the light rays emitted by the at least two emitters is captured by the lens segments and reflectors arranged about at least two detectors, and directed to the detectors. Connection to analytical circuitry then allows interpretation of electrical signals, which in turn control, for example, window wiper systems.
